Shouldn't the GI Joe vs Transformers miniseries be in the second volume instead of the fourth? Or does it take place outside of the regular GI Joe continuity?

My recollection is that while it fit loosely within the canon of the Marvel Transformers series, it was more or less completely ignored in GI Joe.
I also think there was a Transformers appearance in the regular GI Joe title towards the end of the Marvel run, too. |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
This is a really impressive figure for 35 bucks.

I really like these new Mcfarlane statues that are takes off famous Marvel covers. Fairly priced as well.
Here are a handful of my favorites but there are a lot more: https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-hlbg...511923.jpg?c=1 https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-hlbg...510659.jpg?c=1 https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-hlbg...237746.jpg?c=1 Marvel Products - McFarlane Toys Store |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
I like them too, discovered them one day when browsing Walmart's media section. They had the Spider-Man and Captain America ones in store. Pretty good pricing given their detail and size.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
Some recent pickups
Got these as a set for $40 from Los Angeles Comic Con last week https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...96046ef4f.jpeg Got these Street Fight figures in late summer from Frank and Sons here in Los Angeles. It’s open 2 days per week and is a pretty massive toys, BDs and collectibles shop. $25 each. Made by Jada toys. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...284ee322e.jpeg Lastly, I picked up these Transformers pops at WonderCon in the Spring for $5 each. They were on clearance https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...b156c117e.jpeg |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
Those Jada Street Fighter toys are supposed to be awesome. I've never seen them at Target, though. Maybe I'll head over to Frank n Sons if they're selling for retail and not marked up. One of the other makers of "fighting games" toys, Storm Collectibles, makes their figures in a slightly larger scale (which is annoying) but they recently announced they'll do Street Fighter Zero/Alpha in the 1/12 scale, and people are saying it's because of Jada. They make fantastic figures as well so we'll see.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
Just ordered my 4th and 5th retro classified Cobra Trooper. Don't know how deep I'll go on them but will probably order at least 1 a month as long as they're readily available for $25 a month. I know there has been some talk before about troop building in the past. Was it asked the most of a specific type of troop you all have ever bought? Any property, not limited to GI Joe.
For me it would be these Cobra Troopers. As a kid the only troops I remember owning were a single B.A.T., Cobra Viper, and a TMNT foot soldier. I don't remember anyone owning more than 1 of a soldier. With the classified line they're some of my favorite to own. In addition to the cobra troopers I have 4 Valkyries (female cobra troopers), 3 Crimson Guards, Cobra Vipers, and Snow Serpents, 2 Cobra Eels, and 1 Cobra Officer, whatever the yellow Crimson Guards are called, and 1 of each of the different styles of B.A.T.s. |

The new Iron Grenadiers look awesome as does the SAW viper (who has additional storyline cred from the comics) but I've cut back a bit... like the Rattler was super tempting but vehicles in this side are just too big, I kinda wish they went back to 3 3/4. It is awesome that they finally seem to have the supply part of the equation in check. The original cobra troopers and officers were so hard to find initially (and good luck with something like Major Bludd) |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
They have been going all out lately on G1 Optimus Prime releases. They have the Commander Class Studio Series 86 which is basically an updated design from the animated 1986 movie complete with trailer. They have a retro modern Deluxe class toy that is chunky like the old toy but modernized. They have the Missing Link which is basically redesigned from the ground up G1 toys with added articulation (but different from the Deluxe one). Yolopark is putting out these "model kits" of non transformable G1 designs. They have a cool Hot Wheels Optimus.
And yet I still bit on the latest retro reissue of G1 Optimus Prime, a Walmart exclusive, in toy colors. Why? Because this one comes with the spring to launch Roller. |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
I've been chomping at the bit seeing all these classic Optimus Prime toys get released. Still my favorite-ever present from Santa.
In other news, McFarlane Toys is putting out a Superman 78 figure. I'm guessing we'll eventually get the entire cast. https://lylesmoviefiles.com/2024/10/...1978-superman/ |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
That Reeves figure is already sold out in most places. I think there was either an overcorrection on the McFarlane or the retailer side because most of his releases sell out on preorder fast. I doubt we'll get many of the cast considering Superman is the only superhero in the movie, I haven't seen a willingness from McFarlane to do civilians, though maybe he does a Clark.
On a side note, he did ALMOST get me with his most recent solicitation: https://www.walmart.com/ip/DC-MCFARL...3&from=/search It's Lightning Lad from Legion of Superheroes. If he delves deep into that it'll be the first time since Mattel's DC Classics did it long ago. I'm a huge Legion fan. BUT... 1) It's from the Bendis Legion. ugh. They do include a "classic" Lightning Lad head but that design basically looks like Black Lightning. Even then, I would've probably preordered it BUT 2) He actually is putting out a classic Lightning Lad in the classic colors. But it's a Platinum release meaning it's a chase release. And not a chase release for the Bendis toy, which is a Walmart exclusive, a chase shortpacked figure in other stores. So now that I know there's a Lightning Lad I would actually want, but probably can't get, I don't want the one that is "close." And if I miss it and he does the same with the other LoSH, making them Platinums, well I guess I'm out and I'll stick with my Classics. https://www.reddit.com/r/McFarlaneFi...lad_platinums/ I know he comes from the comic book collecting mentality of chases and hard to get items and such but man I just want to play with toys, y'know? |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
I came across one Target which had a mess load of Platinum edition toys. If I were a flipper I would have scooped up the whole batch. I was tempted to buy the classic Bronze Age Penguin figure but decided I didn't need another dust catcher.

This is a really cool idea. Would love some Marvel ones too!
Comic corner boxes (see the upper left of the comic itself if you are confused like I was at first) for your wall! Just went live. Corner Box Wall Art Collectibles - McFarlane Toys Drawing Board https://qrvjs4h6dck8.atlas.thrinacia...e30a5a9e25.jpg |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
I would have to see those in person before buying one of them. Could be cool, but mock-ups often look different than the actual item.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
I took a chance and ordered them both. I will post pix once I receive them.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
So Mattel has been doing Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers. Stuff like Two-bad with the heads or Rocksteady and Bebop, and Michelangelo with a full head of He-man hair. Goofy stuff completely in line with the originals. They're awesome, but I got them for my kids, there's a lot of MOTU and TMNT stuff out there already.
But now, the crossover I always wanted, Thundercats and MOTU. https://bsky.app/profile/preterniado.../3lgdyooeyr62s https://comicbook.com/gear/news/motu...ced-by-mattel/ A Mummra that can swap into a Skeletor. Thundercats that can change between the originals and MOTU'd designs. And a Battlecat Thundercat... |
Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread
A few weeks ago I drove to Frank and Sons in the City of Industry, CA and found what I have been searching endlessly for years.
This is a 40th anniversary replica of the G1 Optimus Prime. Paid $70 for it. Wanted to get a replacement for the one I got in 1984 that was broken by my cousin back then when he was a baby. Probably won’t open it. I’ve gotten multiple smaller versions of Prime over the years, but nothing could replace the OG G1 version. This is as close as it gets. I guess these were originally sold at Walmart? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...2e6b67e77.jpeg |

My understanding is that the original mold for the trailer was lost so this is a slightly different remold, though most won't be able to tell the difference. This is no longer available on Walmart.com but is on hasbropulse for the original75: https://www.hasbropulse.com/product/...rime/G01535L00 Interestingly, they recently released two basically brand new updated remolds invoking the original Optimus toy: The Japan exclusive Missing Link figures: They sold a version with a trailer and without. Here it is on Hasbro Pulse: https://www.hasbropulse.com/product/...iler/G08310000 The series is basically complete remolds of original G1 figures, with updated articulation and such. They actually just came out with Missing Link Cliffjumper and Bumblebee, and Sunstreaker is next. Pretty expensive but really awesome updates to some cool toys that are really different from the Masterpiece line (which tries more to emulate the cartoons). There is also a completely different deluxe class robot that is also a new better articulated version of the original optimus, but with no trailer. It's actually pretty great, I just got him recently, particularly as cheap "hand candy": https://www.hasbropulse.com/product/...rime/F98485X00 And then of course if you have a ton of nostalgia for the cartoon but don't want to spring for the rather expensive Masterpiece versions, there was the Studio Series Optimus... doesn't invoke the toy but as a relatively budget friendly modern version of the cartoon character complete with trailer, it's pretty awesome as well. Don't ask me why I bought so many Optimus Primes in such a short period, I'm obviously a sucker (and the current line of toys is actually called "The Age of Primes" featuring, a ton of Optimus Primes including a redo of the Japanese-only Star convoy) Oh, and if you just want a cool Optimus Prime on your shelf but don't care about transforming it, the Yolopark AMK Pro "model kits" are fantastic. I put model kit in quotes because I think contractually they can't call it an action figure but it's not so much a model kit like a gundam as it is a figure that is separated into pieces like a BAF. But yeah, if you're just going to keep it in the box what you've got is definitely good enough. The big drag is that you will probably never see a similar vintage Megatron reissue in the US for obvious reasons. |
