SIMPSONS COMICS Ending After 25 Years, With Questions About BONGO COMICS' Future
By Chris Arrant, Editor
July 26, 2018 07:07am ET
The long-running Bongo Comics series Simpsons Comics is scheduled to end with October's #245, at the same time the company's other title, Spongebob Comics, is taking "an extended break." Simpsons Comics is currently one of the longest-running comic books that has never been renumbered, in publication since 1993.
This comes following a big year of changes at Bongo Comics, and Simpsons' owner 20th Century Fox. In July 2017, Bongo Comics co-founder Bill Morrison left the company to take over as Mad Magazine's Executive Editor. In December, the Walt Disney Company announced plans to acquire the media assets of 21st Century Fox (which would include Simpsons).
Newsarama has reached out to Bongo Comics for comment.

Sad to see this happening. Simpsons Comics is a retread to the old days of funnybooks. I imagine SpongeBob may get licensed at IDW or Boom!

I remember when Bongo Comics started, and liked their stuff. I haven’t kept up, but do occasionally buy their holiday collections and still enjoy them.

I was unaware that the Futurama Annual that came out a few weeks ago was the first issue of that series that had been released in a while. The last issue of the Futurama regular series was released on February 2017.

I think it's a sad day if Bongo Comics ends. One of the few non-superhero comics I would regularly check out over the years and they maintain a unique appeal in today's world of comics.

They were on comixology at least for a few years. They pulled their comics in 2015 to create their own platform for the comics in the Simpsons app or something.

No, Bongo is owned by Matt Groening. My understanding is that his agreement with Fox back in the day included that he could use the characters for his projects like comic books and toys and he has some ownership in this and complete ownership of Futurama. The details aren't completely clear, but one thing is certain and that is that Groening owns Bongo.
