I absolutely LOVE John Romita Jr's work.

My favorite art from him was his first Amazing Spider-Man run when the great Frank Giacoia inked his pencil work. It was pure magic. It had the fluidity of Romita Sr. with some really dynamic action and great poses. Romita Sr's inks on Jr's pencils always looked great, too!

I thought the run that he did with Straczynski on ASM was great (using his modern style). And his work on the Hulk was fantastic, too. I just picked up some trades of his work on Thor with Jurgens writing.

But, of course, his BEST work came in 1978 on the 2nd Marvel Super Special for KISS!

Yeah, I've noticed that, too.

Some artists just have a "DC" style -- Jim Aparo, George Perez, Curt Swan.

And some artists have a "Marvel" style -- Liefeld, McFarlane (really most of the whole inaugural Image class), JRJR, Bagley, Kirby, Art Adams.

And then some, like John Byrne, Neal Adams, and Jim Lee, are publisher agnostic or "versatile."

I think I associate the cleaner, more conservative look with DC, while Marvel tends to be more stylized. Guys like Byrne and Lee are somewhere inbetween, where's there's a distinct style, but it's also conservative and traditional-looking.

Hey, Perez had two awesome Avengers runs and pretty much drew everyone in the Marvel Universe (at the time) before he had to bow out of Infinity Gauntlet. I'd put him in the "versatile" group.

Don't forget his fantastic run on the Fantastic Four.

George and Joe Sinnott are probably my favorite FF art team - tied with Big John Buscema and Joltin' Joe!!

George Perez fit right in with Marvel.

It's like he's entered the "phoning it in like Frank Miller" stage of his career...
