Re: Ghost Rider #9 - #19: Jesus and Johnny Blaze?
Doesn't "all non-artists" in Marvel's early history consist of Stan Lee and his brother?
I don't remember any Jewish references or characters in early Marvel. Do you have specific examples in mind? Even Ben Grimm wasn't explicitly revealed to be Jewish until about 10-15 years ago.

#1 above was written by Mike Barr and drawn by Jim Aparo as you note.
#2 was written by Paul Levitz and illustrated by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez. In particular, an angel comes to spare him from God's wrath, but he commits suicide. God therefore bars him from the afterlife.
#3 (the sci-fi one) was written by Dan Mishkin and illustrated by Pablo Marcos. He was basically the last survivor of the previous universe, and it's implied that when this universe ends, he will be the last survivor of this universe.
#4 was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Joe Orlando. The Stranger is an angel who refuses to take sides in the war between God and Lucifer, and is thus not welcome in either Heaven or Hell.

Read a book on the history of Marvel Comics, all the way through to the 1980s. Comic books were always a heavily Jewish-led industry based out of New York City, going all the way back to the 1940s. Check out this fine book:

a) how did that come across on the page in early Marvel, and
b) why did you single out the non-artists and/or were you trying to highlight some group distinct from "Stan Lee" by the way you phrased what you said?
Not trying to be confrontational or argumentative about this -- I just genuinely didn't understand the point you were making, and I don't really see any explicitly Jewish stuff on the pages of the comics.

DC also published this. It's obviously slanted toward their Christian readers but their stories anyone can relate to. This is also Frank Miller's first Batman assignment.

Perhaps their worry was making Jesus an in-canon character. I imagine a lot of Christians would be upset if someone portrayed Jesus in a mainstream comic in a way they didn't like.
If you're interested in Biblical characters in comics, Cain, Abel, Eve, and Lucifer all appear in Sandman. Lucifer even got his own excellent spin-off series.

That comic was canceled because it was leaked that Jesus was going to be Monarch's true identity. Then it was changed to Captain Atom, and that too was leaked. In the end, DC settled with Hawk as Monarch even though the Hawk and Dove annual clearly showed Hawk fighting against Monarch.

Thanks! I knew I've seen the artwork before but I couldn't place it.
It's real. Done by José Luis García-López. A really underrated artist from the 70's. Most of those Dollar Comic covers were done by Adams.

The sight of these Dollar Comics gives me the warm fuzzies.

I love Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez's work. For me, when I think of the DC characters, I think of his version of the characters. In the 80s, he was the guy who did all their style guides for licensing and merchandising, so that's what the characters looked like.

I finally bought this issue earlier this year at WonderCon.
Onto a religious comic - A week ago, I found an old Spire book called The Cross and the Switchblade which is based on a book and a movie staring Pat Boone and a young Erik Estrada. A country preacher decides to go to the big city and preach the word of christ to some gang members.
The "And every piece will say I love you!" literally made me laugh out loud. I had to own the book after that.

I actually think he's the definitive DC artist for many characters. When he was going good, Garcia-Lopez was like a more polished Neal Adams.
