Wanted a quick read and something different from my current TPB reads so I read one of my digital single issue freebies, Mage: The Hero Discovered #1. One of my favorite series of all time, and a top five favorite creator.

I saw that you were reading Mage and got set to tell you that you were in for an awesome series, but then I got to the part where you said it's one of your all-time favorites, so you already know that. I should reread it -- it's been years since I did so.

Read Buck Rogers #1 by Howard Chaykin last night. Pretty disappointing. Liked that Chaykin went back to Buck's original origin but disliked the pseudo-political stuff he likes to pepper into projects he has free reign on. It also felt a lot like the Blackhawk mini-series he did back in the 80s.

I have this messed up "save the best for last" philosophy. I have piles of books that I know I'll enjoy re-reading (and movies to re-watch), but I'm saving them for a day when I tire of new stuff or need a pick-me-up. At least I think those are the reasons.

Edit to clarify: Not Twilight the recent vampire crap of course, but Twilight a 90s miniseries where he brought back DC space stars of the 70s.

Speaking of Chaykin, anybody else read Satellite Sam? It's drawn by Chaykin and written by Matt Fraction, but it is the most Chaykiny book I have ever read -- all full of tough guys and sexy women set against the backdrop of the 50s. I'm not entirely sure Chaykin isn't ghostwriting this under Fraction's name.

Ugh... I collected that series for a long time because I liked the original pre-Crisis character (and Peter David's take on the Matrix, convoluted as it was), but they had absolutely no idea what to do with the character and it abruptly changes direction multiple times (I think early on they either forgot she was a teenager or were trying to be really edgy/creepy), trying to cover it all up with multiple guest stars and what not. A later writer basically sweeps pretty much the entire early part of the series under the rug.
Anyone got an opinion on the 2006-2011 Wonder Woman run? Thinking of picking those issues up as I am starting to get interested in the character.

Sounds like Chaykin.
Read Moonstone's Airboy - 1942: Best of Enemies by Chuck Dixon last night.
It came out in 2009 for $6.50. I found in the .50¢ bin a few weeks ago. It's a pretty hefty book that I really enjoyed. It's Chuck Dixon back on Airboy - I felt like a kid again!

Don't get me started on Straczynski's stunted run.

That is disappointing to hear, especially since I already pulled the trigger and bought them on ebay this afternoon. Oh well, can't be any worse than what I am reading now I guess.

It's been so long; probably one of the X-Men comics from the early 2000s. I remember having these two issues at one point.

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread into another religion debate. I was just curious how a religious person who is against evolution could think its okay to read a comic thats about nothing but evolution.

Unlike the bible, the X-Men is a fictional book. Thus, it's allowed to be filled with crazy ideas like evolution.
I'd like to know if there were any mutants on Noah's Ark.

It actually could be a cool thread in our religion forum or a more specific Christianity forum. Is 'sinful' entertainment ok for Christians?

My hodgepodge ebay lot that just came in the mail included the first Marvel Ultimate books I've ever owned: Ultimate Comics Spider-man 1-3. Read issue #1 and think these will go into the 'to sell or trade' box.

The world presented in the comics and later media depicts mutation as adding new genetic information, resulting in "super powers" like telekinesis, healing, increased strength, etc....but its all fiction.

Just read DC's new Arrow issue 1 and issues 1 and 2 of the digital-only version. Nothing original, glad they were free.

Read Hunger #1 & 2 today. Not bad. Loved Leonard Kirk's art. This is a bridge mini-series between Age of Ultron and Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand so I'm pretty sure nothing substantial will happen during it. But I enjoyed it.
