It's nowhere in the league of most of these, but I recently re-discovered a copy of X-Men Vol. 1 #100 purchased more than 20 years ago. It still had the $12 sticker on the polybag.

No way, that is incredible. I would be grinning like a fool for a while if I discovered a book like that in my collection. You are talking about Uncanny X-men 100, correct? If it is in half-way decent condition it is worth at least $100-200 dollars. A book discovery would not have to be super high value to make me happy, congrats.
I felt like you did a couple years back when I realized that I had the last issue of Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog 290) from the character's Archie Comic days and that sucker is at least a $100-150.00 book in the condition my copy is in (at least a VF+ copy, more like NM- at worst).

Re: What are the gems of your collection?
I have nearly 8000 comics and I have some pricey ones (sold hulk 181, new mutants 98, nyx 3).
My favorites are the complete Sandman series, x-men 120-143, amazing Spider-Man 298-325. I've never been a fan of gold or silver age comics, though I have a handful of those.
But my prized possession is a a small sketchbook I would take to conventions and ask artists if they could do a quick sketch for me. This was before artists started charging for them.
I have great sketches from Stephen Platt, Charles Vess, Art Adams, Mike Mignola, Alex Ross (Kermit the frog as the green goblin), Jeff Smith, Jill Thompson, Scott Hampton, P. Craig Russell, Geoff Darrow, and many more.

Re: What are the gems of your collection?
An update, I just signed the Heritage Auctions Consignment Agreement to sell my McFarlane piece at their November 21-23 "Comic Art Signature Auction" live auction event. They are also accepting my other art pieces because as a bundle the pieces met the criteria of individual piece or multiple piece lot of art needs to be worth at least $10,000 in their eyes for them to accept the pieces and sell them on my behalf (the other artwork should be up during their Jan 2026 on-line auction).
Comic artwork seems to be still hotter than the surface of the sun at this moment, and I can't take it with me when I pass and I certainly can use the money for a rainy day, so things got real and I am excited.
When I submitted my Original Artwork pieces on Sunday afternoon via the get a free eval/appraisal section on Heritages site I did not expect such a quick reply, but yesterday afternoon the VICE PRESIDENT OF COMICS HERITAGE AUCTIONS reached out to me to discuss my Spidey piece, so yeah...it is a valuable piece and he did say it was a nice piece that would be good fit for their upcoming live auction event in November.
I am driving down to their Beverly Hills Office this Friday and my brother in law who is much more courageous than I in navigating traffic around that part of LA is going to take me the office to drop off the art so they can ship it to their TX HQ by the deadline for submissions for the Nov auction, which is no later than next Friday.
As we get much closer to the auction I will be happy to add updates to this thread if that is cool with everyone here.

So is it the McFarlane Spidey piece you posted further up that they have the main interest in?

Yup, I might get a bit emotional when I hand it over.
However, I am now in my mid fifties, and have had the art for I believe over 25 years, it is time to let her go.
I am also pragmatic and looking at a harsh job market and might need money for a rainy day fairly soon and a hopefully pretty big infusion of cash into my bank account will be invaluable.

I think the absolute floor for your Spidey page is 20k, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went for 50k+. And the Valentino DPS will definitely hit 4 figures with a chance to maybe get to 5.
Good luck with the auction. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Be sure and post the link to the auction. If the bidding starts at 100 bucks, I will move it to $200, no problem!

Todd McFarlane Auction Link
Auction is not live yet but Heritage did a great job with the pics
Hmmm, I think you need to sign up for free to view the listing so I can delete the link if that is the case. Do not want to force anyone to have to sign up just to view some pics.

I'll say this - McFarlane is a terrible, plodding writer but that original Spidey art is quite impressive. A shame he abandoned Marvel and DC so early for...Spawn.

I know, I know, this thread feels like I have hijacked it, but I really do encourage folks to contribute to this thread as I like looking at other folks cool comics, art, figures.
In the meantime, here is an updated link to the Nov auction that now includes my Valentino GOTG splash page art. No description yet but love that they are leaving the art framed.
This just leaves my A Vs P issue 2 art, and a Ron Lim Skaar issue 12 page (never provided a picture on this thread) for the January auction.

Here are some original art pages I've picked up in the last year or so:
Jim Lee - X-Men (1991) #10, page 6:
This is an average page from the worst arc of this particular run, but this series was my primary gateway into comics and I've always wanted a page. Unfortunately prices have escalated to the point where a better one would be all but unobtainable. I still like it though.
Mark Bagley - New Warriors #16 cover:
I loved (and still love) the first 25 issues of this series. The Terrax story from #15-#17 was my favorite, and for my money represented Bagley's peak on the series. Around this time he started on Spider-Man and was working on both simultaneously. I think his work suffered a bit as a result. I already own the cover to #15 and I hope someday to get my hands on #17.
Mike Zeck - Master of Kung-Fu #98, page 16
Master of Kung-Fu is a series that I never read until it was finally collected for the first time a few years back. It's great and features some amazing art by Paul Gulacy, Mike Zeck and Gene Day. Zeck was early in his career and was a little shaky at first but by the end of the run, was putting out some really strong work (with a lot of help from Gene Day's inking).

The Jim Lee piece, that is Mojo, correct,? Congratulations on owning a Jim Lee piece and not paying Heritage Auctions prices, lol!

I am just happy you are in a position to pick up art that you enjoy owning.
I especially love that you are slowly but surely picking up more new New Warriors pieces, as I was a huge fan of this underrated series.

Re: What are the gems of your collection?
While the money is admittedly silly, the truth is that Jim Lee X-Men art (even a c page like this one) is a blue chip asset in the comic art market. I'd have no trouble liquidating it at a moment's notice if the need arose. And given current trends, in a decade it could be worth much more than what I paid. Not that I bought it for investment purposes, but it's a relatively safe place to park my cash for the time being while I enjoy the art. You can't say that about a lot of other collectibles.

Re: What are the gems of your collection?
In all fairness, the Mojo stories were never particularly good. Mojo is annoying character that got grandfathered into the X-titles because of his connection to Longshot. I think he was probably designed as some kind of Noam Chomsky-ish critique of the media by Ann Nocenti, but I just can't buy the character as part of the X-Men universe. Nocenti is a very activist storyteller -- way before "woke" became a buzzword -- and sometimes it works (her Daredevil run) and sometimes it's heavy-handed and feels like a Bizarro World Objectivist Ditko screed (that one New Mutants Special).
Mojo is definitely not my favorite, but Claremont went back to him multiple times. Maybe he was trying to throw Art Adams a bone, but I can't imagine editorial demanded he be used or else. And X-Men (1991) was just Jim Lee playing the greatest hits. I'm sure if he didn't want to do a Mojo story, he didn't have to. Longshot and Dazzler were put right back on ice for years after this story, so it's not even like they needed to use Mojo just as a way to get them back.
