From Zenescope, lasting thru Sunday, a sale on 33 of their collections.

Is this Grimm's Fairy Tales stuff any good or just T&A?

From Dynamite, lasting thru Sunday is a big Battlestar Galactica sale: 6 collections and 72 singles.

Anyone read this? I'm a big fan of all the TV incarnations so I imagine I'll pick all these up.

Not sure, but it seems to go on sale at least once a month...

Zenescope's stuff is actually a lot less T&A than the covers would indicate. I still never really liked any of the stories of the three or four books I've picked up.

I guess one of their collections was once free, or perhaps I bought it cheap. And you're right, not all that T&A, but mediocre stories imo.

One new sale today, a three day one from Archaia on Jim Henson stuff like Fraggle Rock; 5 collections and 4 singles.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

My $1 Month of Marvel Unlimited expired yesterday. I read a ton of stuff, all the Superior Spider-Man, Marvel Now Deadpool, Indestructible Hulk, Wolverine & The X-Men, Daredevil End of Days and a few other things.

I enjoyed it, but I'm not renewing. I think what I'll do is sign up every six months, catch up on the series I read, and cancel again.

I bought one of the trades on sale and liked it fine but wasn't compelled to pick up any others. I remember very little of the original series but was a fan of the reboot.

Two new freebies yesterday; digital debuts from Fantagraphics, Hate #1 and Meat Cake #1.

A possibly new bundle of Warren Ellis' Wolfskin, reviews are mediocre.

Looks like nothing new today, but that Image sale is going to hurt the wallet.

So why are the saga collections more than the individual issues? Any extra content?

Yeah, that's a constant internal debate for me. It seems like some collections add a few pages of pencil art or something; but many collections lose the covers, text pages, story-so-far pages, etc.

I know this will never happen, but I wish Comixology would give you the individual issues when you bought the collections, and vice versa. Not only for the above problem, but because I fear I will buy collections not knowing I already have the single issues or vice versa. I know I've done that in the physical world.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Yeah, that's why I want to buy the collection... because I already bought collection 1, and then switching to the monthly numbering is going to make it confusing. But it's a significant difference between getting the collection in this sale and buying the individual volumes.

One good thing about the digital editions is that most of them come with all the alternate covers available, so you don't necessarily have to wait for the trade for that part.

Of course, I'm so hard up for space on my ipad that I currently buy runs that are on sale, then have to delete all but the first few issues, and download as I go. Is there any way to purchase on the device but have it not download?

You can purchase on the web, where they only put their bundles which sometimes work out cheaper. Also, you can purchase on the iPad but then immediately go to the download tab and pause and delete your new purchases. Cumbersome, which is why I only buy on the web now. Besides, Apple doesn't need 30% of the cut, I'd rather it go to comic people.

Warlord of Mars has a sale going on. I think the art is attractive but how are the stories? Anyone read them here?

The sister series Dejah Thoris is on sale as well.

I'm tempted to buy a couple to sample. Usually there is a past freebie #1 to go on, but nothing this tine.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Lots of updates today. First, no new easily found freebies; but there are some new bundles on the website.

The Marvel Monday sale on the complete House of M is bundled to a slightly cheaper $59.99, unless you had most of the #1s for free from last year.

There are a couple new bundles in the bundle list, including a couple Night of the Living Dead ones from Avatar. Anyone check out these books? At least some are from the original writer apparently.

I saw talk of another Warren Ellis Avatar bundle, but can't find it on the site right now.
