I see some cool figures on the SDCC website that I might want to pick up. They are listed as limited but no time/day is listed next to the release.. so how do they work? do they go on sale thursday morning and when they sell out, they sell out or do they sell a certain amount each day... or will they post a day/time later?

Some may be only thru the company's website (like Sideshow however you can try to get on the wait list for their figures.) Other ones are allotted by raffle ticket (Like Mattel, Gentle Giant) Where you go to the booth early to get a ticket. Most are good for one item, no duplicates. Others will make you stand in line and only have so many allotted to sell each day. Some will stamp or punch your badge to make sure you can't get duplicates.

When you pickup your badge, you'll get a bag with a few goodies along with your Comic-Con Events Guide. This item will contain everything you need (programming grids, maps, etc). There is a section called "Around the booths" that can have helpful information. Also some vendors will have an ad in the guide that will have information. Take your time and check it all out. You never know what nugget of information might be buried in there.

But, yes, as you walk around the booths you can ask. Oh, some exclusives are available on Preview Night.

No, beforehand, you go thru the list, look at the program to find out exactly where the booth is, get there early in the morning and once the convention doors open, make a bee-line to what you want and stand in line. This will be especially true for Gentle Giant. You're going to miss panels doing this. You may miss out getting any exclusives doing this. Your life will be forever in a line.

In some cases you can wander around, but not suggested. You have to beat out the dealers that want to horde exclusives to sell.

I have pre-orders from Sideshow and Gentle Giant so I'll pick those up on Preview Night. This is my first time pre-ordering so, hopefully, if all goes smooth I'll definitely do it next year.

For those visiting from out of town, looks like the weather is going to be nice. Low to mid 70's and the humidity shouldn't be very high. Hopefully the marine layer will stick around during the morning like it has been this week. That keeps the direct sunlight off us peeps outside waiting in line.

Of course, this being SoCal, it's tough to predict weather more than a day in advance. But looks good so far.

I did a pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles. Wasn't interested in the Gentle Giant products. I'm hoping to get the Batman/Joker exclusive figures, hopefully those will be available on preview night.

Other than that, the only purchases I'm looking to make are cool Dark Knight and Wall-E products, although I'm sure I'm going to see a ton of stuff I want to get. Should be fun convincing myself not to buy things. Oh, and this girl I'm seeing wants some kind of Sailor Moon art book or something.

There's a good deal of anime stuff, so I'm sure it should be easy finding Sailor Moon stuff.

Pre-ordering is usually very smooth. however, I don't believe you can pick up SSC on preview night as I could not in the past.

Oops, well I was half right. I just checked and Sideshow says you can pick-up exclusives starting on Wednesday but Gentle Giant isn't until Friday. Maybe SSC changed their policy to make things less hectic during Con. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

can you guys help with a specific recommendation for parking? i'm going to be landing at SD airport at 10:00 am on thurs, rent a car and want to get straight to the convention center as an artist I like is signing until about noon... so time is of the essence... and i don't mind paying a little more for parking..

1) do you think i can make it through the badge line and be in the hall by 11:45ish?
2) where should i park? does the convention center itself have parking?

___________________
just found out the artist i want to meet is signing til 12:30.. so that buys me an extra 30 mins.. yeah!!!!

The Comic-Con website has a link to parking lots. The convention center has parking under it but I'm willing to bet it'll be full. One thing to keep in mind is that it's a work day, so the regulars will already be parked by the time you get there. Also you're getting after the doors open at 9:30, so most of the close parking will be taken already by attendees. Wished I could be more help but I'm usually there around 5am and there's only a handful of cars under the convention center.

One thing that might be in your favor is that since you're arriving late, the line for badges shouldn't be too bad. Don't quote me on this since this is the first year they've not done onsite registration, so I'm assuming this will cut down on the crowds.

As for your timeline.... a lot will depend on if you arrive on time and have a quick trip to get your car. The airport if fairly close (around 4 miles away) but you'll have to contend with downtown traffic... and the pesky one-way streets.

Oh, wait.... you said the artist is signing until noon? If he's pretty popular, I'm sure they would've established the end of the line by 11ish. Last person will carry a "end of the line" sign when they estimate there are enough people. There's always a chance he could just keep signing, so check it out first.

Good luck!

1) do you think i can make it through the badge line and be in the hall by 11:45ish?
2) where should i park? does the convention center itself have parking?

just found out the artist i want to meet is signing til 12:30.. so that buys me an extra 30 mins.. yeah!!!!
Don't get your hopes up. That's not nearly enough time, IMO. On Saturday, it could take you 30 minutes just to cross the street if you're arriving at the wrong time. All four days are sold out, so expect a ton of people. A Thursday this year is like a Saturday 10 years ago (keep in mind the Convention Center has expanded and even w/ the expansion, more and more people come each year) Thank God there's no Padres home games this year during the Con.

To answer your questions:

1) no freakin' way.

2) good luck on that. Could take you an hour just to find parking around there. The Convention Center parking will be LONG filled up by then. Out of the 13+ years I've been going to the Con, I've only been able to park there once.

Your best bet? Take a cab from the airport. It's really a short ride. Worry about a rental and everything else later. If it's a favorite artist, you don't want to miss out. If you're going to the Con all 4 days, you won't need a rental car if your hotel is near the Con. If not, it still may be worth it to take cabs. No time for sightseeing around San Diego. You'll probably be too worn out by the end of the day to do anything but sit in a jacuzzi.

There's a "coat check" or whatever at the Convention Center. You can leave your bags there.

If this artist means that much to you, I'd try to pay extra and get an earlier flight. Maybe he'll be doing more than one signing? Also, check to see (ask around or use deductive reasoning; if he/she has a new comic out on Dark Horse, go to the Dark Horse booth and ask if they're doing any signings) if he'll be doing any other signings at any of the booths (always a possiblility). Check the paper postings on the boards for new autograph signings. Those things can change every hour and they are good at keeping them up to date. Also make sure to check the information booth at "autograph alley" for more updates and extra signings he/she may be doing.

Good luck! (don't get your hopes up though)

Weather update: They're saying it'll warm up and be a little muggy on Friday/Saturday.
