I posted it because it was a cover of his that I liked. Sure the design of the cover, the reason I like it, didn't come from him but it was a cover that he did pencil that I thought was good.

Sorry, I was unclear. I understand your reason for posting it, i don't understand others calling it a swipe when it was clearly an homage.

Oh I completley agree. And of the few things in there, one of the arms is ridiculously larger than the other regardless of perspective and there's something I don't like about the cape. But the composition is nice

I think when you basically ape an iconic cover or spalsh, then it's an homage. When you steal the composition of an interior page that you assume no one will notice, that's a swipe.

I don't approve of the thread-title change, intended sarcasm or not. While I'm no fan of Sal for various reasons, he is nowhere near the worst comic book artist ever.

Yeah, but there have been, like, 120 posts straight about Sal, so I figured he deserved some sort of billing in the title.

I'm a Sal fan but can go along with the thread-title change for humorous effect. The excessive punctuation pretty much makes the point.

As a kid/teen, I always hated Klaus Janson. I was always disappointed when he drew for any books I was reading at the time.
We need a "what artist do you hate the most" thread.

I don't necessarily hate him, but I don't see all the hype about David Finch. I mean, he draws things well, in a Lee/Silvestri sort of way, it's just every single one of the noses he draws looks off to me, for some reason.

I hated his inking too but especially when he did pencils. The main ones that stick in my mind are the first several issues of the first Punisher series. I was big into The Punisher then and cannot express how much disappointment I had with the art for it. Especially after having Mike Zeck for the first Punisher mini-series.

Janson's inks always looked like chicken scratches to me, though they worked on Miller's stuff, for the most part I thought he ruined the work of most other pencilers.

I always thought the worst inker was Vince Colletta. His work at DC was horrible. He screwed up just about every artist's pencil work. His inks over Mike Grell's pencils was the worst for me. Erik Larsen pretty much has the same opinion.

I am suprised no one has mentioned Romita Jr yet. His 80's X-Men art is an eyesore.

I didn't think so. I thought he was inked pretty poorly but I think his pencils still shined through that.

Romita Jr run on Daredevil was some of the best art from that era in my mind. Heck, I'm not sure I would have started collecting comics if not for him.
No chance this guy should even be mentioned in a Liefeld thread.
Spoiled for being GIANT

Jr.'s DD art was great. He was inked by the legendary Al Williamson on that though. I think his X-Men art, which I had no problems with, was inked mostly by Dan Green.

When I was a kid, I couldn't get in to JRjr's art. It was too far from the pretty, clean line look of guys like Byrne and Perez. It wasn't what I thought comic book art was supposed to look like. Now, of course, I realized the me of back then didn't know what he was talking about.
That Daredevil run he did with Nocenti was sublime. It's a shame it gets overshadowed by the Miller stuff that preceded it, because Nocenti/Romita deserves to be talked about as one of the great creative teams of the 80s.

I've got to go back and re-visit their run because I remember hating the writing. I didn't find the themes of the story lines appealing but I pretty much gave up on it after DD fought a demonic vacuum cleaner for a couple of issues.
