I wonder what took them so long to do Identity Crisis?

Sandman Mystery Theater? Jeez, they could at least have done issues from the Lucifer or The Dreaming comics. Endless Nights and Dream Hunters are both readily available in nice, oversized hardbacks already, and at cheap prices.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

It's "Sandman Midnight Theatre."

It was a prestige format book that included a brief meeting between Morpheus and Wesley (Golden Age Sandman) Dodds. It was co-written by Matt Wagner and Neil Gaiman, so its inclusion in the book isn't out of line. It was never reprinted in the Sandman paperback series, but it did appear in Vertigo's book of Gaiman short stories (Midnight Days) along with two Swamp Thing shorts and Hellblazer #27.

The crap deal here is (besides charging $100 for less than 400 pages of content on some of these), a couple of these were $50-$75 back when they first came out - doubling their retail price on a new printing is just plain shitty. But then DC's business practices when it comes to collected books has always been sorta shitty.

Yeah, don't most rereleases drop the price?

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

Do they? If it goes from hardcover to softcover, sure, but most TPBs tend to maintain the same price for years before eventually going up on a new printing.

But I am glad that I got Kingdom Come when it was $50... at Half Price Books, when I had a 50% off coupon. $12.50 was a sweet price.

Maybe not for comics and collectibles. I was just thinking most other media forms.

I'm over Absolutes. I think they're cool, but I've sold every one I've bought (well, still waiting for someone to buy Absolute Planetary vol 2 from me). The format just isn't worth the price for me.

Same here, I had a nice healthy collection and one by one started selling them off. Nice format, but too expensive. I do miss Hush though, hoping one day it comes out in a regular HC

Overall, I agree with you guys, with the lone exception being Absolute All-Star Superman (and maybe Absolute Justice). Those things are worth their weight in gold.

CDs and DVDs will generally see reductions in MSRP after time, but books rarely do. Books usually creep up in price between printings, so DC jacking the price of all of their Absolute hardcovers to $99 isn't too surprising.

Hmm, I pre-ordered it, thanks. I don't own Hush but read a friend's Absolute a while back and thought it was pretty gorgeous.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

This one has been deemed unworthy of the Absolute treatment before. It was rumored a few years ago and then shot down at a Q&A. Personally, I'm glad we are getting it.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN: DARK VICTORY
Written by JEPH LOEB
Art and cover by TIM SALE
On sale MAY 23 • 408 pg, 8.25” x 12.5”, FC, $99.99 US
Presenting the classic tale of the Dark Knight from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale for the first time in DC’s upscale Absolute format!
Collecting BATMAN: DARK VICTORY #0-13, this epic continues the story of THE LONG HALLOWEEN. It is early in Batman’s crimefighting career, when James Gordon, Harvey Dent, and the vigilante himself were all just beginning their roles as Gotham’s protectors.
Once a town controlled by organized crime, Gotham City suddenly finds itself being run by lawless freaks, such as Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and the Joker. Witnessing his city’s dark evolution, the Dark Knight completes his transformation into the city’s greatest defender. He faces multiple threats, including the seeming return of a serial killer called Holiday. Batman’s previous investigation of Holiday’s killings revealed that more than one person was responsible for the murders. So the question remains: who is committing Holiday’s crimes this time? And how many will die before Batman learns the truth?

Anyone know why the resolicits of Absolutes like All Star Superman and Watchmen aren't showing up on Amazon? I want to make sure i don't miss out on ASS again (heh, ASS), but all I can find on Amazon are listings for used copies.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

Not exactly "Absolute" but DC is starting to put out more oversized classic storylines in HC form- next month the excellent:

The Legion of Superheroes: The Curse Deluxe Edition by Paul Levitz is coming out. I'll definitely be picking this one up.

Pre-ordered it like two months ago. Was really happy with the Great Darkness Deluxe so looking forward to it.

Absolute All Star Superman is up for $56.99 (plus $3 shipping) on Thwipster. The book is $80-$90 on Amazon and bn.com, so it's a pretty good deal:

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

I'm all for Batman: Dark Victory getting the Absolute treatment, but it looks like Long Halloween can be had on eBay and other cheap retailers online for around $50. It's hard to pre-order a book, even at $65, when the previous book in the series is selling for about half off.

I dig these books a ton, but man, $100 cover price for 400 pages is just unrealistic.

DC is clearly trying to test how high fans are willing to pay, because these prices do not make much sense. A $100 list price is way too much for these shorter series.

I'm pretty sure it'll be 2 or 3 separate books in one slip-case.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

Coming in September 2012, ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS WAR will collect the story of Sinestro’s bid for totalitarian control of the galaxy – giving the arc the Absolute treatment with a gorgeous, over-sized hardcover presentation.

Collecting GREEN LANTERN 21-25, GREEN LANTERN CORPS 14-19 and GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS SPECIAL 1, ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS WAR features the writing of critically acclaimed, fan favorite authors Geoff Johns, Dave Gibbons and Peter Tomasi, with art by Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Patrick Gleason and Angel Unzueta.

In November 2012, DC Comics will release ABSOLUTE BATMAN & ROBIN: BATMAN REBORN – collecting the landmark story of an all-new Dynamic Duo, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Frank Quitely, Philip Tan, David Finch, Cameron Stewart, Andy Clarke and Frazier Irving.

Bruce Wayne has fallen, and former Robin Dick Grayson has taken up the mantle of the Dark Knight. He is joined by a new Robin – Damian Wayne, the assassin-raised son of the original Batman. Together, the unlikely pair fights against a brutal menace that threatens Gotham City, as well as a pair of rival vigilantes out to fill the void left by Bruce’s disappearance.

Presented in the signature style of DC Comics’ Absolute editions, ABSOLUTE BATMAN & ROBIN: BATMAN REBORN collects BATMAN & ROBIN 1-16 and BATMAN THE RETURN 1.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?

They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel... Sinestro Corps War and Batman & Robin?

Okay... I can sort of see Batman & Robin, but that storyline is kind of useless without being taken in the greater context of Morrison's Batman run. Plus, DC seems to have fucked up what he was trying to do when the rebooted their universe with 52.
