Big changes in store for Batman [SPOILERS]
http://www.comicbookresources.com/co...g&article=2919
I haven't really paid much attention to the whole Infinite Crisis/Final Crisis thing, but is DC planning a reboot like they did with the 1986 Crisis on Infinite Earths?
In June/July, DC are killing off Batman. Or rather, Bruce Wayne. Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood. Hey, maybe Jean-Paul Valley, it has been ten years since Azrael.
Either way, the book will relaunch with a nice shiny #1.

Theres a big discussion about this over at newsarama. Word is Grant is/was wanting Bruce to die, and become a New God. Seriously. I call bullshit on DC doing this, especially with Dark Knight on the way, among other reasons.

I don't see this happening (of if it does it will be a temporary thing like most all comic deaths), but if this was going to happen, DC wouldn't have put this out there like this. Or maybe they would considering how many people bitched about not knowing Cap 25 was going to be "important".
Golly, I sure do miss the days when I could actually read about what is going to happen in a comic, in a comic.

So they are canceling Batman which has lasted 60 years or so to restart it at #1 for some dumb ass promotion that, like others have said, won't last beyond a short while? Or are they just doing this with a whole new Bat-title? Because if they are arbitrarily canceling the long running Batman series for this crap, this is a worse move than Marvel restarting Hulk with number one for the upteenth time.

For many years now, I've thought it would be a good idea to have Bruce find true love, abandon his life as Batman, and have someone else pick up the mantle.... and then have Joker kill Bruce's love, have Bruce go nuts and kill Joker and have him return to being Batman. Maybe a bit crazy, but killing off Bruce Wayne? I'm sure it will be temporary, but still a crap idea in my mind.

Then again, I thought the same thing for Kingdom Come and now that's crossed into JSA and it has it's own Earth in the Multiverse.

One of the great things in Batman's future stories is that even though he is human, he has outlived almost every other contemporary superhero.
Probably some dumb fuck, who doesn't care about tradition, history and continuity in comic books is going to come, kill Bruce. Then, after all the media hoopla and negative attention, they will revive him. Just short term solutions for short minded people in the comic business today.

From Lying in the Gutters:
Frankly, I think that sounds awful.
The last two LITG columns... this one and this one, have covered the death of Bruce Wayne, his ascendancy as a Fifth World New God, and his replacement here on Earth.
I can now tell you that the new Batman will be designed by Alex Ross and will see Jason Todd under the cowl.
Poor Dick Grayson. Don't you hate it when someone junior to you is promoted above your head?
This is all part of a cross-continuity, longform story by Grant Morrison and in terms of structure bears similarity to his “New X-Men,” but on a far wider scale. It sounds rather good.

I'm sorry, this just doesn't sound right. If this was going to happen, would it be so out there? Especially considering the "secrets" the big two have been able to contain in the last few years. Frankly, killing off Batman would be bigger than any of them, so why would they let that slip?

Kind of like Marvel turning the Hulk red before the next Hulk movie.
Which is all the more evidence these "changes" will be short lived.

"DC are..."? Someone at CBR needs to learn the rules of subject/verb agreement (unless he considers "Detective Comics" to be plural).

I think it's sad just how much we already anticipate Marvel and DC to align their comics with the movie properties.
Can't judge a story before you've read it, that's for sure. I thought Winter Soldier was going to such major balls but it was great.

I just checked several sources, and I can't find that rule. But hey, maybe I just learned something new.
As for Batman himself, well all I read is ALL-STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, which I love despite its awesome absurdity. Who cares what happens in the other books.

But who knows, this story could rock. I hope it does.
