Seriously, I was so busy meeting with up and coming artists and writers, I had almost no time to be a fan boy. No regrets in the slightest, but it's weird seeing all the news from the con knowing that I was there the whole time but totally oblivious to it all.

Hey Ethan, Met you at the con though I missed out on your sketch book. Any luck on you still having any or should I just look towards the secondary market?
Had tons of fun at the con. I wonder though, what's your view point on cons since you're shuffled around booth to booth with signings, do you get any time to enjoy it?

I'm very appreciative of his talent and his patience at my lack of experience at commissioning artwork. This was the first year I'd ever done a commish, so I checked in with him a couple of times during the show, which was probably pretty annoying! Live and learn, but the end product is a piece of art that will hang on my wall forever!
Oh! I even mentioned DVDTalk to him, and he said something to the effect of, "...I don't think they like me much around there." I told him that a few people may not "get" his sense of humor, but I found his posts entertaining.
Here's the piece!

So for the uninitiated (like me) how do you commission artwork?

Hit up the artist as early as possible and hope they aren't all booked up for the convention. I got a nice Adam Hughes Batgirl that cost me about $100 to get but is well worth it.
Let the artist take their time and check back at the end of the show or at least towards the end and you're good to go. It'll cost you something, depending on the artist and all, but it's a sweet thing to get a one of a kind piece.
On that note, I just realized that in the Tim Sale Sketch Book this year he included the Heroes Peter sketch he did for me at Wizard World L.A. It's actually a trip to see a commissioned one of a kind piece in a sketch book and knowing that I have the original piece. I have to get that sucker framed.

Well, well, well... sounds like some of you jerks like to brag about commissioned artwork but won't share it with the rest of us. If you aren't going to share about your sweet, sweet finds, then don't brag.

Jack, how frikkin' early did you get to AH!'s table to get on the list? His list usually comprises of people waiting in line way before they let people on the floor, and within minutes, that list is filled up to the brim with hopefuls.

This was a couple years back and I was really lucky to get on the list. I'll scan in some of my stuff tomorrow but I'm really glad for the pieces I have.

I was wondering (about the $100 for the Batgirl sketch), because I think AH! sketch prices are now up to $150. He still owe my friend and I a couple of sketches, and we only paid $60 each for them, about 7 years ago.

So how do people line up for a commissioned sketch before the convention even opens?
