Well I got the Daredevil/Bendis Omnibus the other day, and it's pretty friggin' great.

I didn't think they could improve the quality of these things any more, but this one is even a notch above the others. The pages are actually stitched into the spine (separated from the cover spine) just like pages in a high-quality hardcover should be. So the book opens almost completely flat, with virtually no gutter loss. It makes up for the printing error on the cover.

See if you can spot it:

It might be hard to see.
Spoiler:
there's a "®" right on Daredevil's nose - it's pretty funny, actually

I guess Marvel's already fixing it and adding artist Alex Malvee's name to the cover too.

Is there anything in that Bendis DD omnibus that wasn't included in the previous oversized hardcover collections?

slop101 09-07-08 10:22 PM

I wouldn't know, I've never seen those books - this is my first experience with this material.

According to the back of the book, it collects issues 16-19, 26-50 & 56-60, and it has almost 60 pages of "extras" in the back.

BrandonJF 09-10-08 01:37 PM

Wow. 60 pages of "extras" sounds like there is plenty of stuff not in the oversided hardcovers...

If you ever flip through them and can describe the type of content they placed as "extras", I'd appreciate it - not really needing a page by page breakdown, but if you can give some general info, that'd be great. I haven't been able to find any info on what they were able to throw in there. Is alot of it scripts?

slop101 09-10-08 02:45 PM

It's stuff like unpublished concept art, interviews, written commentaries on scenes, Bendis script (just a partial one), etc. The typical stuff, but interesting, with little, if any, of it being filler.

boredsilly 09-10-08 03:56 PM

I don't want that, not really a Daredevil fan, but I love that these things are so en vogue now. I want more collections like this. I don't think it will be happening anytime soon (and it's not marvel), but I would love a collection like this for Gail Simone's Birds of Prey run.

Thanks! It sounded like alot at first when compared to the oversized hardcovers, but it may be the same... I forgot that they collected issues 16-19 in the last hardcover volume and much of the extras in that book were related to those issues, which gets the page count of extras in the old hardcovers almost on par with what is in the omnibus. I'll just assume, for now, that it's the same stuff.

Also in October, there's The X-Men Omnibus - the original team by Lee & Kirby.

Has this been solicited yet? Did I miss it? I have seen it on Amazon. Usually I grab these on DCBS but I missed the Iron Man Omni solicit too.

Zbu 09-18-08 11:56 AM

I'm hoping that the whole run of the Original X-Men comes out in Omnibus format. I already pre-ordered the first one, and here's hoping there's a second!

As for Witchblade, there's rumblings over at the Top Cow boards that the first Witchblade Compedium is being reprinted as well. So if you keep an eye out, you could get the first 100 issues of Witchblade in the last quarter of 2008 for a good price. Only problem is that they're so paranoid with the binding (a combination of sewn and glue) that it's causing a delay.

Oh, and I second the Night Nurse omnibus. Why not? :)

ivelostr2 09-18-08 12:24 PM

for those who care, The Iron man Omnibus is onsale at x-world for 77.99 ant then 45% off today, and 50 % off tomorrow if they are still available, using this code
instocksep2008 . I got an email and ordered it, I thought it was a really good price...

ivelostr2 - thanks for posting that deal. I didn't see the Iron Man Omnibus (guess it had already sold out) but I got several other TPB deals.... lotsa reading material for the winter. Is this an annual sale that they have? How long before you usually get your package? At any rate, thanks again for posting the deal (though my wallet did NOT appreciate it)!

Meatwad's Ghost 09-19-08 07:50 PM

Sinned, on shipping it depends on which version you choose when you ordered. Of how long it takes. If over $10 it might be the 1-3 day shipping and around $6 is the 1-3 week shipping. They do this sale a couple of times a year. I did several searches and didn't see any Omnibuses I think they pulled them when it hit a certain number.

For any Sin City fans I found this:
It's a rare version of HC-FRANK MILLERS SIN CITY HARD GOODBYE RETAILER EDITION for $30 before discount. I'm not allowed to link yet sorry.

As for Omnibuses I would like to see I just hope they keep going with the X-Men (1963) and the Fantastic Four series.

Thank you ivelostr2 for the heads up! I picked up the Secret Wars Omnibus and Absolute Dark Knight for 80 bucks total. Best deal I've had all month!

NP, Im glad some of you were able to get stuff...

i thought about the Absolute Dark Knight as well, but I just couldn't do it this month, I just switched jobs and the different pay periods have me all bound up. I might have convinced the wife to let me put the secret war omnibus on a CC if I had realized they let you use the coupon on preorders though...

Rex Power Colt-Robot Man 10-19-08 10:13 AM

Just a quick aside ... isn't the term omnibus nullified if it is immediately followed by a "vol.X"?

gmanca 10-19-08 07:28 PM

I'd love a West Coast Avengers Omnibus; that was my favorite comic series, with the late 70 Fantastic Four series as a runner-up.

MBoyd 10-21-08 10:01 PM

Captain Britain and X Men in the Jan. solicits. Two a month kill me even with DCBS.

John Byrne FF volume 0 TPB is solicited too . . . how long until an Omni? I'd love that.

Aw, hells yeah!

Not only will this contain remastered Alan Davis art with new coloring (which was sorely needed), but the first half of this collection is written by none other than Alan Moore.

I wish Marvel Two in One #100 was in there since it's a sequel to issue #50.

slop101 10-23-08 10:08 PM

A Byrne FF Omnibus would ideally be FF #232-264 + annual 17 for volume one.

And volume two would be #265-296. Only the last two issues there would be Byrne-less, but they'd wrap up the book nicely.

gmanca 10-24-08 12:24 AM

No love for the return of Doctor Doom and the Son of Victor Von Doom? That fed nicely into the Sphinx/Galactus/Skrull storyline.

slop101 10-24-08 01:09 AM

What do you mean? That'd be in there in the 2nd volume. I just thought that the way I laid it out would be a good cut-off point (vol.2 being the She-Hulk issues) where there won't be any hanging threads in either volume, with a little over 30 issues each, which is in line with most omnibus books.

davidh777 10-24-08 01:29 AM

I still remember reading FF 236 as a floppy. I loved the new/retro feel of it.
