Here is an ebay seller selling the Howard The Duck Omnibus new and sealed for $33.50 shipped. He has 6 left.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOWARD-THE-D...AAAOSwL7VWtW1u

Obviously this omnibus did not sell very well.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

It didn't sell well because the price point for these Omnibus is getting ridiculous. Why would someone spend $100 on an Omnibus when they can get the whole singles collection for half of that? Same with the X-Force Omnibus and others they have been releasing in the past several years.

How many people really pay $100 for them, though, other than LCS loyalists?

I recently blindbought the HTD omnibus because of the cheap price, but the size of it seems like the other Omniboo I've bought so it makes sense to price it the same. It sounds like the problem was they printed too damn many copies of this and other fringe-y titles for the market that wanted them. I'm sure it's only a fraction of the market for the classic core titles.

Funnily enough it was the one out of the recent clearance lot that I wanted. I'm still a sucker for those movies and TV shows I loved as a kid.

I don't know. With the price one can get stuff from Amazon, and IST it doesn't make sense to pay full price. My LCS has TONS of trades, but they are all back cover price. Once, I asked the guy about a break on the price because I can get stuff from Amazon for so much less. He said that he hears it all the time, but can't do it. Hell, I would have split the difference with him. It really sucks because I really want to support my LCS, but I am not going to throw money away to do it. They do however have a decent selection of used trades that honestly look like they have never been read for half price. Every time I go in I try to buy at least one used book. Usually it ends up being several.

Amazon sent my SW omnibus in a cardboard box with a few air pillows. No damage.

I bit the bullet on the first two Fantastic Four omnibuses from CheapGraphicNovels via the Amazon marketplace (oddly enough, it was cheaper to order it there compared to their own website, and I get my Amazon Visa reward points on top of that). I already had the first FF Epic Collection, but I decided on the omnibuses especially so that I would be able to read everything up to the Galactus trilogy.

My LCS has a few bookshelves' worth of trades, but not a ton (there's a store farther from me that has a lot more). They also have a small selection of Omniboo--maybe 20, and they rarely change. (Amusingly, they have volumes 1 and 3 of Marvel Star Wars, like they think they're going to tempt me at $125.) I guess they have them just to have them in case someone actually wants one--I was there once when one was purchased--or to wait for their sale on everything for Free Comic Book Day. I'll purchase smaller trades there, like the regular installments of Invincible and TWD, but otherwise buy online. But they've been around for years, so I guess their system works for them.

Happy to say that it all ended well. The package somehow took a week, but arrived well wrapped with lots of packing peanuts. I couldn't find any sorts of dents at all on any of the corners, let alone anywhere else. Very nice.

I think many comic book stores keep omnibuses on the shelves for the eventual day when they go out of print. Does anyone actually purchase omnibuses at full price from their local store? The only time I ever see them move an omnibus is when they become scarce after going out of print. Cover price then usually looks better.

It's like Barnes and Noble or FYE with some of the multi disc collections. Whether they are deluxe movie releases or a TV series set, they always seem to have those things when they are getting scarce everywhere else.

Maybe because no one bought them at full price when they were new. :)

Not a great bargain, but goes along with the Omnibus conversation. Amazon has been selling the SHIELD omnibus directly for $50-something, but then I saw IST got copies of the Steranko cover back in, limited to one per customer. I'd been regretting not getting that on street week, so I went ahead and got it. I also picked up Avengers Omnibus 2 for $58, which was about the same price as the lowest Amazon seller plus postage. By the way, it's kind of a joke that the standard S&H that Amazon sellers can charge is $3.99. I assume they just make it up in the pricing of the item.

Stop me before I buy any more Omniboo!

Update on my four orders from 2/8:

Two of them arrived yesterday, 2/16. The books from Doubleheader Amazon marketplace were each packed in Amazon-style yellow bubble mailers, but that's OK because they were inside a heavy cardboard box, shrinkwrapped and with no remainder marks. The two books from IST were of course new and packed like a bomb shelter.

My other order, from indoobestsellers Amazon marketplace, has shipped but not arrived yet and doesn't provide tracking info. Boo.

My last book, from Amazon direct, is still backordered.

Update on my third order from 2/8: It arrived today, 2/24, from indoobestsellers Amazon Marketplace. The two books were in a slightly soft-ish cardboard box with air pillows, shrinkwrapped with no remainder marks. One of the books had the shrink split in a few small spots, and one of the corners was a little bashed. So it was fine, but compared to doubleheader, the shipping was much slower with no tracking info, and not packaged as well. So I'd order from them again, but would prefer doubleheader if I needed a tiebreaker.

My last book, from Amazon direct, is still backordered.

Well, that sucks. I did buy that one from Amazon marketplace recently, but I still don't have the first one and it's been bothering me. However, I don't really like the first few issues until they get into the teens, and I have many of them in the Epic Collection volume they put out. If it drops below $60 at some point, I'll probably bite, but I'm concerned about the out-of-print prices. That convinced me to get Uncanny X-Men Omnibus 3 when it came out recently, and I'm debating the Miller Daredevil reissue as well. 50% off at IST is still $62, but it's better than the out-of-print gouging that will likely happen at some point.

I have a local Ollie's that I always forget exists, I'll have to check them out. They often have bagged comic packs too.

Amazon currently has The Flash By Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato Omnibus up for a December 2016 release at 55% off ($33.47). It might be an error, but In Stock Trades will probably have it for close to that price anyway.

I like the look of those volumes. Hamilton Books had them, but at full price, and I don't think I want them that much. Heck, even Amazon is cheaper.

Kind of a skimpy Omnibus at 25 issues.
