Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
It's off the Amazon price but is capped at $10- so $33 is highest ticket item you are going to see the actual 30% taken off.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
To be completely lazy:
Are there any good Marvel/DC/Image/IDW/Dark Horse books that are ~$33 on Amazon that come out lower priced after the coupon than InStockTrades offers them? |

An examples you'd like to share? Because I've been looking at Marvel oversized hardcovers and the price after coupon is often the same as the discount I get from IST.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Books that I'm trying to decide between (or if I bother getting any of them) using the Amazon and B&N 30% coupons
• Alien Archives ($50 msrp/ $33 online)- nice book, but having half of it devoted to two films I hate, dampens my enthusiasm a little • Red Sonja Art Edition ($150 msrp/ $113 online) - I've come to really appreciate Frank Thornes art, especially on this material. However I don't know exactly what the quality of Dynamite's version of an Artist Edition is. Paper Quality and reproduction are a big ? and might be a deal killer to me. • Spectrum 21 (Not sure probably $40-50 msrp) - I used to make this a yearly purchase but stopped last year and didn't really miss it. I should try to save money and this would be an easy thing to keep cutting out of the budget • Frazetta Sketchbook Vol. 2 ($39.95 MSRP/ ~$28-$30 online)- I already have this pre-ordered at Amazon. If nothing else, at the last hour I'll cancel the old order and reorder with the coupon and save a few bucks. I bought Vol. 1 recently and I was impressed with the quality and classy design. For some reason I keep thinking Vanguard is a cheap knockoff publisher, but they really aren't. Haven't compared them page by page, but there is bound to be some overlap with the smaller Spectrum book 'Rough Work'. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Speaking of B&N, in the thread in the DVD section Laser said they may have a "$20 off a $100 purchase online codes that could get activated Monday with the CM coupon [which is supposed to be 25% off]". And don't forget that they're still running the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Marvel & DC sale.
So today I went to Vons supermarket and bought $150 in B&N gc's (+$50 in Amazon) to prepare for that. Vons has a "Buy $100 in gc and get $10 off your next $25 supermarket purchase" (lots of exclusions apply, including for milk products), but I figured why not? I then went over to B&N and used those gc's 2x to pay for different gc's for the "Buy $75 in gc's and get a $10 post-12/26 gc free" in-store. So now I have over $100 in B&N gc (along with $20 in supermarket coupons and $20 in gc that will be good after 12/26) and I'm all set for the upcoming "$20 off a $100 purchase online codes that could get activated Monday with the CM coupon" and figure I'll start with the Buy 2 Graphic Novels get 1 Free sale, hopefully twice (which should get me to around $75-$80, and then throw in something higher priced to try for the 25% off coupon, maybe a cheap omnibus) to make it to $100. Theoretically I think that might work, 6 regular gn's plus a higher priced one (with maybe a cheap filler book or dvd to make sure to hit $100). |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Grabbed Saga Deluxe for 21~ at Amazon with coupon. Was going to use the coupon on Farscape vol 7 (they finally finished the series in TBP format) but it ended up about the same as IST so I might just do an order there and get caught up on some stuff.

Saw the book at BN and was impressed with the quality of it. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Let's see...
Saga Deluxe Vol. 1 - $23.12 after Amazon coupon versus the $24 I paid from IST on release week. Lazarus Deluxe Vol. 1 - $19.20 Amazon versus $16.80 IST Casanova Complete Vol. 1 - $16.46 Amazon versus $14.40 IST Thor: God of Thunder Deluxe Vol. 1 - $19.17 versus $18.54 IST Marvels Companion - $21.33 Amazon vs. $21.19 IST Jessica Jones: The Pulse Complete Collection - $18.98 Amazon vs. $18.54 IST Daredevil by Mark Waid Vol. 3 - $20.56 Amazon vs. $21.19 IST Iron Man: Fatal Frontier - $18.38 Amazon vs. $18.54 IST Wolverine: Japan's Most Wanted - $17.92 Amazon vs. $18.54 IST Animal Man Omnibus - $40.44 vs. $39.75 DMZ Deluxe Vol. 3 Preorder - $16.46 vs. what will be $17.40 at the most, probably $15 most likely Big Hard Sex Criminals Preorder - $22.67 vs. $23.19/$20 Arkham Asylum 25th Anniversary - $14.62 vs. $12.18 Punk Rock Jesus Deluxe - $21.39 vs. $21.19 Complete Maus HC - $14.95 vs. $25.55 Between IST's prices through tomorrow (of which I coincidentally have the extra 2% discount for through tomorrow) and Amazon's price after tax and coupon, there's nothing that jumps out as "must buy" at Amazon except for maybe Maus since I gave away my previous copy. Even sorting by percent discount yields nothing worthwhile. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
You aren't trying very hard. Do you happen to work for InstockTrades? Legends of the Dark Knight: Alan Davis hardcover for $18 from Amazon with coupon. $21.99 on IST with their sale. That's fine if you are happy handing $4 over to IST for nothing. There are literally thousands of books on Amazon like that case.
Tales of the Batman: Don Newton hardcover for $13.49 shipped by Prime fulfillment from a third party. Pretty incredible pricing. http://amzn.com/1401232949 These tales from legendary writer Archie Goodwin focus on The Dark Knight as a hero who stands against the monstrous forces of the night. Includes the Manhunter saga, which culminates in a Batman team-up. Collecting DETECTIVE COMICS #437-443, DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #3, SHOWCASE '95 #11, LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #132-136, BATMAN: NIGHT CRIES and BATMAN BLACK AND WHITE #1 and 4. 480 pages |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I got the latest Walking Dead omni on Amazonfor about $6 less than IST, so there are definitely deals to be had.
I just hope Amazon packs it as well as IST would. |

Even your example above: Legends of the Dark Knight: Alan Davis - Amazon after tax: 19.65. IST w/ my current discount: $21.19. Difference: $1.54 cheaper at Amazon. Hardly the $3.99 your math comes up with. That's not a huge deal or a great savings. I personally would rather give that $1.54 to IST since they're not a mega corporation and they provide great pricing, packaging and service year round while, in terms of graphic novels, Amazon only has good pricing in the event of a glitch or if they throw a pitty coupon at us to try and get us not to spend money with B&N, and they package large books like shit. Don't take that as some kind of "big corporations suck and are evil" rant. I love Amazon. But their comics/graphic novel pricing is a joke. Furthermore, what's the point in including the "Tales of the Batman: Don Newton" in this discussion unless it was just slapped below what you were directing at me? The coupon doesn't work on third party vendors. And I've never disputed there are good deals through third party vendors on Amazon. I've made many purchases from those people THROUGH Amazon, including a $6 oversized hardcover last week. But those are not Amazon's deals. And those low third party prices exist year round. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I'd rather order from IST than Amazon because IST will make sure my books are properly packaged and don't arrive in a bubble mailer, cardboard wrap, or unsecured in a flimsy box with the shit beat out of them. Every single item I've ordered from IST has arrived in pristine condition. IST's prices are generally better than Amazon's, anyway, and if they aren't it's still worth an extra dollar or two to avoid damaged shipments.
Also, there's no sales tax from IST, either, so that's a plus, too. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Ordered three Marvel Epics yesterday (vol 1 of Iron Man, Thor and Fantastic Four) from B&N, which, after B2G1, 30% off coupon and 5% back for using B&N Mastercard, came to 41.35, or about 13.78 each.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I hadn't planned on spending any money on Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, but the IST sale made me cave.
Ordered the final two trades of Gotham Central, the first two trades of Mind Mgmt, and Showcase Presents: The Flash - Volume 4 before forcing myself to stop. This is my first order from IST so I'm glad to hear that they do a better job with packaging than Amazon. I recently received the second Fear Agent omnibus from Amazon and it arrived with the spine all nicked up. If I'm happy with this IST order, they'll be my go to shop for omnibuses. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I've transitioned most of my trade shopping to IST. Compared to Prime, the shipping is slow, and the $50 free-shipping threshold is not awesome, but I feel like comics is what IST does. Amazon carries comics because they carry everything. I get plenty of value out of Prime. This money I'd rather send to IST.
I did use the Amazon coupon for Hawkeye HC 1, which I've been meaning to read for a while and came out to be like a buck cheaper than IST. I will place an order at IST, though, for some stuff I've been meaning to get like Invincible TPB 20. I was randomly browsing through titles and quickly hit $150 so I'll have to show some restraint. :) The Silver Age TPBs seem to go on sale every so often so I'll probably hold off on those. |

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Things From Another World (tfaw.com) has a free shipping code (HAWKGIRL), with a low minimum order ($20 I think?) in addition to their CM sale. I picked up some DH books I'd been putting off that were 60% off. They're advertising 30-70% off, but most of the stuff I saw was on the low end. Still, may be worth checking out.

Pretty sure BN only allows one coupon code per order. Unless the "20 off 100" is automatic like the B2G1 free I doubt it'll stack with the 25% off cyber Monday coupon.
