Instocktrades is having another DC sale. Not as many titles as the last two sales, but mostly Omniboo at 50% off or more. Legion of Superheroes: The Curse is only $14.99 in paperback and is a great companion to the Great Darkness Saga.

Remember how Walmart had those Marvel trades at ultra-cheap prices? Well, DC has gotten into the act at Best Buy. Two trades have shown up at some Best Buys for $7.99, far cheaper than they would be on the direct market:

Batman and Son (it appears to be a reprint of the original trade from 2008):

http://amzn.com/1401212417

Flashpoint:

http://amzn.com/1401233384

Flashpoint is the better deal, since a newer trade version of Batman and Son includes more issues than this version. These are in configurations that look to have been done specifically for general retail through a chain like Best Buy. They are found in the media department alongside a rack of animated DC movies.

So no digital and 67% more expensive than Marvel's? Stupid DC.....

Target has framed Canvas Art of classic Marvel covers for $19.99. The ones I saw were Captain America and Amazing Spider-Man covers. I have to question some of the choices, I don't think the company printing these things up have much comic book knowledge. The Spidey cover was one with Mysterio but there are better choices.

Shadow Moses...it is 50% off right now on instocktrades, and if you have the additional 2% discount active on your IST account, it is a real bargain (and unlike Amazon, most folks do not have to pay sales tax, plus you know IST knows how to pack so the HC arrives without damage).

Also, it looks like Image titles are receiving a 45% discount, so again...another excuse to not gamble that Amazon will not cock up the packaging of the books you purchased.

Tfaw.com is having a 70% off sale until friday. A lot of that stuff is nick and dent items, but for $15 archives, I'll cope.

Instocktrades has a limited selection of IDW books for up to 70% off. The red label edition of Crawl To Me is 50% off (I picked up a copy).

I went thru pretty much the whole list and got up to $300 in my cart.

Looked at my room of graphic novels and decided to spend that money on digital instead. I still may never get to all the reads, but at least it doesn't take up space.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I am moving next month for the first time in over a decade, so digital is becoming even more appealing. I already buy a decent amount of digital stuff during sales, but still buy way too many physical trades and hardcovers. My primary obsession is oversized hardcovers which I still like a lot.

I once went crazy on the TFAW sale five years ago. I haven't even read some of the books I got in that purchase.

I just last month opened and shelved the TFAW huge box order from two years ago.

Just be sure to do your math. And try to find 3 things almost identical in price for maximum savings. B&N doesn't have a very good discount on a lot of this selection so I'm finding places like IST are still cheaper with their every day prices.

PhantomStranger 11-01-14 04:45 PM

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

The Barnes' sale is usually pretty good for the larger Omnibuses (Omnibii?) that never get discounted beyond 40% off at most places. Remember to use cashback and wait for a coupon to pop up as well.

Yeah I think B&N usually gives a 20% or 25% off coupon for non-members and at least 30% for members at some point during the holiday shopping season. That has always stacked in the past. Though even with the coupon + whatever arbitrary discount amount B&N gives the book, sometimes places like IST are the same or cheaper.

I looked through the TFAW sale last Friday and saw a number of titles I'd like to have, but nothing I NEEDED to have. I also wasn't sure I had an account, so that nuisance coupled with my book backlog made me OK with skipping the sale.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. B&N seems to have a lot going on at the moment.

You can go in-store or online and spend $75 on gift cards, which gets you a $10 gc (activated 12/26): http://forum.dvdtalk.com/12289961-post10210.html

There will be 15% & 20% off coupons from the 6th to the 9th: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/12287264-post10207.html

And there's a coupon that gives you $10 off a purchase of $75 or more:http://forum.dvdtalk.com/12290383-post10211.html

I don't know if this all stackable, but if you can buy the gc's (and get the $10 gc later) and then put around $90 in your cart, use the 15% off coupon and pay with the $75 gc's then that seems like it could be a pretty good deal.

Edit: The rules do include (vii) may not be combined with any coupon or discount promotion, though that sometimes works. May be worth a shot.

$19.99 for a new copy of The Green Lantern Omnibus Vol. 2, shipped by a Prime merchant. Classic Silver Age Green Lantern stories. The description lists "The book is in brand new condition with some minor shelf wear."

Two copies available of The Avengers Omnibus Vol 1 for $30, with the following caveat: "This book has never been read, but does have dented corners. Corner damage may be on one or more corners. The book was damaged in shipping. The corners may have some minor blunting to them. They may have a dent that goes in to the hardback cover about 1/4 inch maybe a little more. This is not a remainder and has no markings or other defects."
I had gone back and forth on whether I wanted the omnibus or to get the upcoming Epic Collection, but figured for only $30 I couldn't pass on this. The defects don't sound like something that would bother me.

Probably because it has super tight glue binding and will not lay flat. I got this the other day from a similar Amazon deal, and its so hard to read I gave up.

That's a bummer. It was a tempting deal, and IST had it for $30. I got the GL Showcase volume, but it loses something in black and white when you can't tell what's green and what's yellow.

I always prefer color Silver Age reprints to black-and-white, except when it was my own series. I've begged them for a Phantom Stranger Omnibus, by the way.

An Amazon seller, Little Big Smiles, has the Avengers Vs. Thanos trade paperback for $11.44 shipped if you have Prime. This includes basically every Thanos story before 1980, nearly 500 pages.

http://amzn.com/0785168508

The seller has it listed under "Very Good" condition, but the copy I ordered arrived in pristine condition (Amazon actually packed it well!) with a small marker dot on the bottom. I think nine copies are left from this seller.

Collecting:
Iron Man (1968) 55; Captain Marvel (1968) 25-33; Marvel Feature (1971) 12; Daredevil (1964) 105-107; Avengers (1963) 125; Warlock (1972) 9-11, 15; Avengers Annual (1967) 7; Marvel Two -In-One Annual 2; material from Logan 's Run 6
