Comic book thread for March

Picked up my books today, not a lot of spectacular stuff. Infinite Crisis #5 was sort of a let-down after last month's issue. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man was a really bad filler issue. Marvel Zombies #4 was more sick dememnted fun.

Detective Comics 817 was the only "1 Year later" book I grabbed this week (I think the others available were Demon, Aquaman and JSA). To be honest, I wasn't impressed, and it didn't fill me with any desire to pick up 52.

The highlight of the week for me was getting the Squadron Supreme TPB (I've always loved the original 12-issue series) and the Essential Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition vol 1. I've always been a sucker for the handbooks, and the "Essential" books rank as one of the best ideas in comics history. Some call them glorified coloring books, but in reality they're a great way for a new fan to read the classic stories at minimal investment.

I was reading the Life section of USAToday while I waited for my lunch and there was a short blurb about DC and OYL.

Stupid spoilers.

I just enjoyed IC #5 at lunch. Also read Adv. of Superman #649, titled The last Adventures of Superman. That was definitely a mess.

I just went to monthly shipping, so wish me luck. Of course, that might mean that I no longer post around here, so maybe you'll be happy to hear it.

I went to monthly and no bags/boards to save money and space. I will just be bagging now. Just had to pick up my Infinite Crisis fix today. I'm giving the extras to my best friend who is married and not allowed to buy comics anymore.

On a whim today I also picked up Batman Secrets. I'm thinking that was a waste of $3. I picked up the Batman Year 100 like that and it rocked out. Definitely be getting the rest of that series. Take a look at it if you can.

Man, the Batman Annual and IC were terrible. At least the art in Batman was decent. I really liked the art in the previous issues of IC, but nothing looked good this issue imo. So, was there a specific moment in IC 5 that led to OYL? It seems like IC 4 was really the big issue.

I thought IC # 7 and I guess issue # 52 of 52 will lead into 1 year later.

What were the spoilers?

Also, OYL was suppose to take place during IC #5, it's no more than a week or two late. It'll all make more sense as 52 progresses and IC ends. But I enjoyed what I picked up today.

I didn't as much think the Jason Todd explaination was the best, but it's just as close to what I thought it was going to be like minus the continuity waves and all.

What is the Jason Todd explanation?

Cool stuff I read recently: my LCS had the TPB of The Kents on sale for 5 bucks, so I picked it up. Awesome stuff. How did I miss this when it was new? Also, I reread Kraven's Last Hunt tonight. Still an awesome story. Both get my seal of approval.

My store didn't get Ultimates 10. It's already 2 months late...did anyone else miss it? just as in the first series, my lust for the book has died down considerably because of the lateness. Personally, I dont' have much faith in Loeb and Joe Mad. Loeb I can understand because of his personal problems and all, but Joey Mad is just a lazy ass.

IC #5 didn't feel as tightly written as the last few issues, with too much focus on hectic events throughout the DCU and it surprisingly glazes over it's dramatic climax. The art also caught me off guard with it's poor quality. I would be willing to wait if it wasn't rushed...

Tec was mediocre, honestly, and I don't feel like it's dramatic enough. 52 seems like an awesome opportunity to explore a lot of story possibilites (without necessarily enacting a whole lot of permanent change), but...yeah...it might lead into something better, but a wasted issue is still a wasted issue.

I agree. Detective just seemed like another Batman book (outside of the two major changes). However I'm willing to hold judgement until they get another 3 or 4 issues out. I hope all the books don't tippy toe around what happened though, cause that can get irritating real quick.

"Thanks for doing...that thing you did 6 months ago"
"That thing was pretty awesome wasn't it?"
"Man, that thing you did when you did that thing? TOTALLY AWESOME!"

IC had so much stuff going on it was insane. A page of this thread, 2 pages of that thread, 1 page of this story thread. The story seems almost too big to be contained in one book. I wouldn't have minded them doing 4 more series or something focusing on the different aspects of the Crisis. One thing that bothers me about the series is how things aren't flowing as nice as I would like. I still enjoyed it though. BTW - I still have no idea whats happening in space.

And the only way to read Ultimates is in trade form. Those delays will burn you everytime. When I do read the book it is fantastic though and I'm having a hard time imagining Jeph and Joe on the book.

Looks like DCBS is "forcing" me to buy the first four weeks of 52. They're all at least 50% off.

I'll still have to preorder 12 issues before I read a single one. That blows. I sure hope it's a good series.

I got my order in today from DCBS. I was surprised that it was two boxes but I was even more surprised when I opened the smaller box to find that it wasn't mine!
I was so glad that the other one was mine with everything in it.

I noticed Mail Order Comics was 1.50 an issue of 52 compared to DCBS's 1.25. I doubt DCBS will keep 52 permanently 50% off but it would be nice.

Late comer question concerning IC 4. Yes, I finally read it this week:

Spoiler:
Did Wally(The Flash) die? What about his family?

Wow, I don't think I cleaned house that much, but the order on my first pass at DCBS was only $60. I added a couple things and got to $78 with shipping. Cheap month.

I did my preliminary shopping and it totaled at $90. I decided I'm buying way too many trades. hahaha.

I read the latest Amazing Spider-Man last night. I actually enjoyed it.

I also read Warlord. I enjoyed that too.
