Yep that's what I thought they would. I do wish it would automatically add resolicited books to your order though.
I just saw over at the master works board that an Absolute Dark Knight with Returns and Strikes Again is confirmed for August! Whoa! |
Absolute Kingdom Come, too.
|
Anyone know how Marvel does their hardcovers? I know they do a lot of oversize books that collect 2 trades. But are they going to do oversize versions of books that have already been in hardcover? For example, Ed Brubaker's Captain America has 1 Premiere HC already out and Vol. 2 is being solicited now. Will there be an oversize version that collects 'em both someday?
|
Three weeks since my last comic shipment.
So, this is what withdrawal feels like.  |
Didn't they just publish a massive hardcover and now they're doing another one? What gives?
Image in June Now someone answer my Marvel HC question so I can order my books. :D |

i seem to remember a thread over at the masterworks board that said there was a series of premiere books that were gonna be collected into an oversized, but i can't find it right now. |
Oooh, thanks Kevin. I didn't think to ask there. I'll post a question.

Am I the only one reading Batman Year 100? After inititally poo-pooing it after seeing it on the DCBS site, I'm really digging the art and style of the story. And it seems that there is some sort of connection the Dark Knight Returns. In issue #2 the police are reviewing footage of past Batman sightings and one happens to be events from the arcades and the city dump. Am I just way off here? It's still a mystery who Batman is at this point of the story. His face is always covered.
Wish I'd ordered it now to get the discount! |
Continuing the OYL reading...
Nitewing 118: After rereading the latest 'Tec, I realized that maybe i'm expecting a little too much from OYL right off the bat. Some build up is good, and it's an 8-part storyline so I can't see much other than seeds being planted right now. It seems like mentioning "what happened one year ago" even once seems too much for even one issue. That's not the problem with this issue though. It's that the pacing of the story is a little too offbeat for me. It tries to show us how DG has moved on a little and perhaps settling into a new lifestyle, but then it totally jumps the gun on us. The ending is supposed to be a shocker but we're not the least bit surprised when it comes. It's almost as if they're trying to create mystery but there's either not enough story to get us interested or there's no mystery because we can see where it's all going. |
Whatever you do, don't read the "Next Issue" blurb..

where is this info on comics on DVD?

i noticed something interesting on my DCBS order page today. I was checking to see if I got charged for Aprils comics and saw the are awaiting payment for .65 for Supergirl #5 presumably. The cover price went to 3.99 after I had ordered it and it was never resolicited.

This new writer is god damn terrible. Nuff said. Drop the book. |
well, there was one highlight of my reading this week:
Superman 650: It's been a while since a core Superman book felt this fresh. The pacing and writing is so tight that I almost can't seem to grasp how good it is considering it's a Superman monthly. Not everything is spelled out thank god, and for some reason hearing "yeah, one year seemed so long ago" doesn't seem so stupid here, maybe because it looks like there's so much that's happened in the past year that these characters have actually moved the fuck on instead of just being exactly the same as we left them. Superman's internal monologue is fantastic: he's still tough underneath it all and yet, even though he's no longer a superhero he's showing us that he's still a man. A lot of Superman stories lately have been moving more towards the Silver Age Superman, who was more alien than human, and here he is enjoying a pretzel. He even appreciates what it's like to stand in the crowd and watch super-people do their thing. There's also a sense of growth between him and Supergirl that really goes a long way to make them seem less like a dorky super-family. The ending is also a great moment. It's a moment that you realize that it's really Superman who is humbling Lex, not the other way around. |

I was really looking forward to Nightwing OYL, but the art on the book was just...ick. The story wasn't really all that hot either. But since I've taken to Dick Grayson, I'll give em 2 storyline to work it out. I think a good fit (besides Johns...I would put Johns on every DC book if I had my way) is Gail Simone on Nightwing.
I'm more curious to see what happened to Supes in OYL than any other character so far. It remains to be see whats up with Wonder Woman, and the Batman book was a bit too vague, but you can tell some shit went down with the Supes crew. Also I can't believe I'm going to be reading Robin. The are on the preview pages looks so damn tight. |
I am considering collecting comics again. any discounts with the mail order companies to try there services out?
|
Not just to try the services out, the discounts are standard. 40 % from DCBS. Up to 75% on special 1st issues typically. Mail Order Comics is similar. We have members who use both.
