I do have to laugh at anybody who complains about 3-4 month delays in comics though. I have to wait 3-4 years between issues of some of my favorite comics
Well you can expect long gaps for the independent books... If I'm buying from one of the top two megapower companies in comics today, I EXPECT a book to be delivered at least MONTHLY just like decades of creative teams before them have been able to do.

I tried most of them, but I agree with your comment. Comic Rants turned me off immediately. Collected Comic Library was OK, but didn't hold my interest long enough. Most of the others were pretty amateur.

I thought I might like hearing the female opinion and tried "I Read Comics". I'm just going to say the focus of the couple I listened to didn't interest me either and leave it at that.

Comic Geek Speak is the only one to get the whole "sit around the comic shop and talk comics" feel and I like that quite a bit.

Okay, I can see you're a Hal fan, but Zero Hour? Really?

I do think Quesada and Jemas helped Marvel put the emphasis on stories instead of art... although those stories are much easier to read in trade. Compare late 80's/early 90's stuff (Fantastic Force, Force Works, teen Iron Man, Heroes Reborn) to the modern stuff, and you can see how it turned.

Growing up, I read both companies, and actually didn't really realize the two were completely separate universes until later in life (must've been that superman/hulk comic that confused me). I particularly loved the cheap, smaller format digest comics that had pages and pages of reprinted material. Loved both New Titans and Claremont/Byrne's X-men. Sure, I favored one over the other at certain times in my life, but I couldn't imagine shutting one out completely.

I'm actually NOT a Hal fan. You can't make a character absolutely flawless in some respects and then make them out to be some sort of twisted monster the next.

By the way, if anyone wants to see the DCU before it went apeshit and everyone was punching each other, go read JLA: Year One for a TRUE re-imagining of the DCU through the Silver Age lens. If I want to read stories about people entrenched in their own paranoia, then i'll read The Walking Dead.

Sure you can.

Not even the JLA and other parts of the DCU can be a Utopian sewing circle of happy friends all the time. Shit happens and is happening. I welcome the shake up. It's like Star Trek: DS9, what made that show great was giving the viewer a look at "the other side" of the Happy happy joy joy Federation and ST Universe.

Argh! How do you guys organize your comics? I find myself rearranging all of my short boxes way too often. I rearrange after getting a new box, for example, and make it so all of my boxes are half full, then within months, they're all full again. And so I take some titles from each box and put them into the new box, only to be full again after a few months.

I don't want to keep doing that. How can I keep my sets together (all Batmans in one box, all Ed Brubaker books in another, etc) but at the same time grow without the need to constantly reshuffle? (And no, I don't have room for long boxes.)

All my comics are alphabatized, which took a LONG time the first go-round (the better part of a few days, as I had 14 long boxes).

Can someone help or point me in the right direction?
I bought my copy at http://www.zaldiva.com/
Of course, it was only $2.95 when I bought it there a few months ago. It's up to $7.29 now. But they do have it, so I'd recommend ordering there for a decent price (at least compared to eBay, apparently).

Yeah, shit happens, but you don't have to make your characters go insane. DS9 was great because it explored the dark side of many characters, but in the end they were always fighting a selfless battle for the greater good.

When I collected, I would put mine in one long box separated by title, then as they filled up, I would put them into their own boxes by title. So, there was shuffling involved, but bottom line was I wanted all of the same titles together.

But, kind of along those lines, I was wondering if there is anything out there like dvdprofiler? I would like to get something like that where you could scan the UPC and it would pull up information and current prices. They only ones I've seen cost money and don't look all that great unless you pay big bucks for Professional versions. I don't collect anymore but I have about 15 - 20 long boxes and a couple magazine boxes that I'd like to get entered somewhere.
Anyone know of anything like that?

Well, you might not want to thank me yet. I just tried adding it to the cart on Zaldiva, and it said it's out of stock.

I checked a few other places online, and couldn't really find much. No one seems to have it.

This place has it listed for $15. I've never heard of them before.
http://www.nostalgiazone.com/

You might want to try calling or e-mailing Dave's Comics. They only have up to issue 213 listed on their website, but they've been in the back issue biz forever, and they might have it.
http://www.davescomics.com

G-Mart has it listed for $20. I have ordered from these guys before.
http://www.g-mart.com/

Well, that's about all I could find. Other than that, eBay's probably your best bet.

Forget your Houses of Ms or Countdowns to Infinite Crises. Go find yourself a copy of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. I just read it this weekend and it is phenomenal. I can't say enough good things about it -- great writing, great art, fun stories. Buy it. Read it. Love it.

I wholeheartedly agree, though I thought I was the only one who ordered that. Great book. I really love that we're getting Disney comics again, though I don't really like the thin digest format and would prefer either full sized graphic novels like Life and Times or smaller, thicker digests.

So, I picked up WILDSIDERZ 0 and 1. I like it. It's geared towards teens but they've got a villian who used to be a "Gene Simmons" like rockstar in the 70's so that's cool to me.

The artwork is awesome and the colors look really good. However, it should be against the law to draw High school girls like that.

What? You mean to tell me that the highly toolish Comic Rants intro didn't make you want to listen to all the episodes? The CCL bored me to tears because the dude just seemed to be reading what trades were coming out this week and golf, but maybe I caught some bad episodes. Most of the other ones seem to fall into that all to common podcasting trap where the casters don't stick to the topic and instead talk more about there lives (turning into an audio blog) or podcasting itself ("vote for me!" "Adam Curry says..." etc).

Is anyone else reading GI Joe: America's Elite? I missed the boat on the main part of the nostalgia wave of comics 2 or 3 years ago, cause really I didn't care. I pick this book up on a lark and damn if it isn't awesome! Makes me want to go back and read the previous run of issues to get the backstory to the new status quo.

Anyone read THE KING? I was totally taken with this book. Loved it.

I posted a review on my site for what it's worth.

Maybe I'm retarded and I'm the only one who missed it, but did anyone else notice that the covers to the SACRIFICE arc all have the same layout? The hero is in the front, left throwing a shoulder into the 'enemy.'

Who's reading the current arc of JLA? Anyone want to venture a guess as to what the major event will be in issue 219?

I've never been a big reader of Superman books but...

Man, I'm thouroughly confused on this "SUPERGIRL" thing. Although, I did pick up SG #0 and #1 so it helped a bit. It was said that Batman found the latest SG when her ship fell out of space into a river in Gotham. When did this happen?

I also know that JSA:Classified and the new SG series, to a lesser extent, is dealing with Power Girl's place in the DCU but I hope they're aren't going to do something crazy with her. While I don't think they'll get rid of her, I still don't want her role diminished in any way in the DCU. Both Power Girl and Supergirl are great characters but I just can't see where they're going with this storyline. Could one of them be a Clone? Didn't the the cartoon make Power Girl Supergirl's crazy clone? Could they be sisters? Courtney(Stargirl) suggested this.

Speaking of Super-people, the Superboy that lives with Ma and Pa Kent the same SB that came out of Superman's death years ago or is he something else? I know Luther had something to do with him but that's all I know.

I'm reading JLA and I can't wait for the conclusion of this arc. I haven't been this excited over comics in general in years. The end of the Sacrfice arc was AMAZING (the first two parts were fluff tho) and I've been on pins and needles with each issue of JLA. The final panel in the latest issue sent chills down my spine -

and the division between the three of them has grown so much that the fallout should occur in Infinite Crisis.

DC is doing some bold storytelling and I'm looking forward to Infinite Crisis and the new DCU in 06.

It's 1985 for me all over again.

Power Girl and her (new) origin are supposed to tie directly into Infinite Crisis. With Psycho Pirate (the ONLY person who remembers the Pre-Crisis DCU AND, per Morrison's run on Animal Man, one of the few who knows he's a comic book chracter) on the cover of JSA: Classified #3, things are bound to get interesting!

He's the same Superboy. Cloned from Superman and Luthor's DNA. Luthor's plan for Superboy came to fruitation in a recent issue of Teen Titans (the story arc that crossed over with The Outsiders).

If anyone's read the Infinite Crisis preview in Wizard....

Spoiler:
Wow, what a surprise! re-imagining the DCU to resemble more or less the animated series just for the sake of it. Still, that's not the worst part - I mean the team itself is composed of several people who aren't even supposed to be there (Reverse Flash and Sinestro back again so soon? Psycho Pirate active?). Anyway, it's not a big deal if it turns out to be a good story, but like most Johns' works lately, even those few pages seemed to be way overwritten. Needless dialogue really hurts a book. It really surprises me since he writes Flash very dense yet easily digestible.

Anyway, Infinite Crisis is shaping up to be interesting...and it's probably going to tie into the new Legion series...they're already hinted at it several times...but it'll be cool to see what Waid is going to do with it.

Thanks!

Yeah, seeing Hawkman saying what he said at the end was wild. I mean what are they gonna do? What will Supes decide?

Anyone know when JLA 118 comes out? I noticed that 119 is slated for late September....oh wait, that means 118 is soon, right?
