His complaint was that all the major DC events take place outside of their regular books.... Like there isn't any story arcs that happen in the regular titles Marvel does just amount of big events that have their own books. Only problem is they hardly ever do anything other than a few issues. Identity Disc? what happened there?

Hey, Jack he's got you there. That is why 4 of the 5 best selling comics this month are all DC titles

And to settle one thing he truly is a Marvel zombie even if he does read a few DC books. Anyone who does not think Marvel's continuity isn't a MILLION times more F'd up than DC's is just blind. EVEN JOE QUESADA HIMSELF SAYS MARVEL HAS NO CONITIUITY ANYMORE. And anyone who says Kingdom Come doesn't have a good stoer (to this date, it's still the single best represtation of Batman IMO) & DKR doesn't have good art, only shows his ignorance of quality comic books.

Any kind of name-calling is frowned upon.

And if comic company discussions go the way of videogame format discussions then there won't be any more here.

Thanks to all for reading, taking note and acting upon.

I don't see how that is possible. Batman already has SIX on-going monthlies, that is more than even Spider-man or the X-men. Not to mention he is a core starring character in JLA so you can even say 7 monthlies. I'm sure we will get a Scarecrow mini-series around summer & certainly he will become a major villain in the Bat-titles around the summer. But it's a given if a comic book movie comes out, the comics will capatalize on it.

That's a negative. Spider-man related titles and X-men titles out number Batman by a lot. DC may use batman a lot but the majority of the Batman titles don't even have him in it for more than a page. Robin, Batgirl, nightwing, Gotham central, catwomen.. All different characters and focus is on them. Batman, detective comics, gotham knight, legend of the dark knight and Superman/Batman are what I can think of off the top of my head. I refuse to acknowledge "the batman strikes" as ever existing.

X-men has a whole section of their own titles and soooo many off shoots for each character pretty much. Count in Wolverine in New Avengers or Spiderman in that mix and you have the web head and x-men with more monthlies to themselves.

The bat titles around that time will be on the front line. Should be around the time of DC COUNTDOWN. this book is going to be a simple buck to buy. They are planning that you watch Begins and pick up this very cheap 80 page book getting you back into DC.

Also looking at the solicite for march:
http://comics.toonzone.net/solicitations/2005-03/

it looks like there isn't any flood of Batman monthlies other than a nice flood of Batman TPB's. You have re-release of Batman: Hush TPB, Year one gets HC treatment. Looks like DC wants to put out the history of Batman to the market in order to get readers caught up. HUSH is a good book for those to jump in with. Characters are introduced in a manner that new readers can get updated and back into it. Seems like the better idea than to just start the 616 in an "ultimate" universe.

This thread has given me a headache. I buy both Marvel and DC books, sometimes more from one company than another but never consistently.. I don't get mad at anything comic-related really because IF I DON'T LIKE SOMETHING I JUST DON'T FREAKING BUY IT. There's no point in complaining about how bad a book is. The only books I really read and enjoy on a regular basis are books that inspire one of two reactions from others:

1. Read it, love it, it's the best book ever!

2. Don't read it. Don't hate it, but it's just not my thing.

That's what I would consider the makings of a good book.

Yeah, but when person has the view that one company is doing better than the other and someone disagrees it makes a better discussion.

Man... just browsing through and reading about some of the stuff going on in comics these days makes me feel alright about ignoring them all for the last 3 years! I was usually more into Marvel as far as the monthly series go, and at the time they were pretty solid and easy to follow (early 2000's). Sounds like they've spiraled out of control yet again.

Even when I was really into comics, I always prefered "limited" series more than ongoing ones. I simply believe that the only way a truly great story can be told is by having a defined beginning, middle, and end. While there will always be good runs scattered about monthly titles, nothing (in my opinion) even comes close to the classics such as The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Preacher, Sandman, etc. And it's no small coincidence that those are all DC published books. Even though I prefer the Marvel characters more than DC's, Marvel still doen't know how to end one thing and move on to another in their universe. Well, other than the occasional "reboot" every 5 years or so.

Vertigo has always been the biggest draw to DC for me. It's a place where "anything goes" from a content and creative aspect, and 99% of the series are inteded to have an actual ending to them. Also, many of the writers of Vertigo titles end up getting jobs on the regular DC Universe, which just helps strengthen their main line.

I think I've been out of the loop a little too long to jump back on any major titles nowadays, but I should probably check out some of the interesting sounding books like Y: The Last Man that have TPBs available and give me a chance to get caught up with. Or just get back into the indipendant stuff from Fantagraphics, Top Shelf, etc.

By the way, if it's no trouble to anyone, what have Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman & Alan Moore been up to since about 2002 or so? The last Miller stuff I know of was the DK Strikes Again (which I still never did get the third/final book of); the last Gaiman stuff I heard about was some 1600 Marvel title that I never read, and Alan Moore was doing his nice group of books like Tom Strong, Promethea (probably got the names wrong), uh... that futuristic police one, etc. Just wondering what these guys have been up to, since they were always the guys I kept up with no matter what.

Based on sales, that would always lead to an absolute answer.

I don't think a whole lot has changed on any of those writers. I read Gaiman is working on a "super-secret" Marvel project for 2005, but haven't heard much new for either Miller or Moore.
