What's the deal with Guy Gardner? No longer a Green Lantern? Does he just go by Guy Gardner: Warrior? What are his powers now, and how did he get them?
Gardner was tossed out of the GL Corps and had his ring taken away. There was a prestige format mini-series (called either Guy Gardner or Guy Gardner Reborn or soemthing like that) that followed Guy as he travelled across the universe and anti-matter universe looking for Sinestro's Yellow Power Ring. He eventually got it and dropped the whole green shtick.
Then, Hal Jordan went nuts and wiped out the GL Corps. Guy took a bunch of heroes to bring Hal to justice (in a storyline called Emerald Fallout which followed directly from the Emerald Twilight storyline where Hal became Parallax). Hal kicked his ass and destroyed his Yellow Power Ring. This lead to the Zero Hour crossover.
During the crossover (either due to the time tampering of the story or the newly-formed history of the DC Universe because of Zero Hour), Guy discovered that he was part alien or had alien DNA grafted to him or something like that. His body became a living weapon. Since then, he went around as Guy Gardner: Warrior.
Sorry is most my info is fragmented. I was really just picking up all the Zero Hour crossovers back then and got the above info from there.
How did Hal Jordan become The Spectre, and what happened to Jim Corrigan?
Before that, Hal Jordan "redeemed"himself by giving his life during the Final Night event. The Sun Eater came to earth and ate the sun (duh!) so Hal (as Parallax) used all his powers to re-ignite the sun and died in the process. He went to Purgatory for some reason.
Now, the Spectre had no human host and the Demon Etrigan convinces a fallen angel to take possession of the Spirit of Vengeance and take over hell. As all hell breaks loose, the DC heroes go to Heaven to try and convince Jim Corrigan to return to his role as the Spectre. He refuses so they go to Purgatory to recruit someone else...that turns out to be Hal Jordan.
So in the end, Hal becomes the Spectre. He attempts to change the Spirit of Vengeance to a Spirit of Redemption.
When Hal Jordan went off his rocker, I know that he killed some. Who's left in the GL Corps? Anyone at all?
Hal had to face Kilowog on Oa and Hal killed him. The Guardians brought Sinestro back and gave him a Power Ring to stop Hal. Hal snapped his neck. In the end, Hal absorbed the Central Battery into himself and became the God-like Parallax.
With the Central Battery gone, the energy that powered ALL the power rings was gone as well. All those Green Lanterns unconcious in space were now dead.
The last Guardian returned to earth and created the last power ring. He gave it to Kyle to become the last GL.
John Stewart wasn't a GL at the time which is why he's around now. Same for Guy.
So many events to check out:
Emerald Twilight (Hal goes nuts and becomes Parallax)
Emerald Fallout (Guy and Hal fight. Guy looses. Hal goes off to start Zero Hour).
Zero Hour (Hal tries to change history and Re-starts the DC clock at Zero)
The Final Night (Hal re-ignites the sun and dies)
Day of Judgement (Hal returns as the new Spectre)
Green Lantern: Rebirth (Hal returns as GL)
There are a few other Hal/Parallax points of interest that happened inbetween Zero Hour and The Final Night. Failing to change history in Zero Hour, Hal and Kyle fight on what remains of Oa. In the battle, Oa is destroyed (which eventually lead to Kyle becoming Ion a few years back). Later, Hal tried to track down the person responsible for the Coast City massacre (the Cyborg Superman). This lead to the DC/Marvel crossover Green Lantern/Silver Surfer. In the Final Night, Hal finally gets his revenge on the Cyborg Supes by making him one with The Wall (see Jack Kirby's Fourth World for an explaination for that one!).
Side-side-Note: the Cyborg gets free in the DC/Marvel crossover Superman/Fantastic Four.
Sorry if I rambled. I forget how inter-connected all these things were.
That and I'm a geek!
Hope I helped somewhat.
Andrew

I've read the first HC and the second TPB and I really liked the series. I've got the 3rd and 4th TPBs, but I haven't gotten to them yet. I'm looking forward to Bendis and Gaydos revisiting the character in the upcoming What If book.

The series ended with #28 and I don't believe there are any future plans to have it continue. Jessica Jones is currently appearing in the Pulse and has appeared in at least one arc of Daredevil. There is also the upcoming What If? issue.

So Guy Gardner is alive again? I thought he died in one of those crossovers a few years ago.
Also, regarding Jim Corrigan...a CSI with that name has recently surfaced in Gotham Central. He's somewhat...ethically-challenged. The writers haven't made any connections with the Spectre yet.
I'm curious about the John Stewart deal myself. Until yesterday, I hadn't bought an issue of JLA in years. But--the Crime Syndicate drew me back in, at least for this storyline. Even when I was a little kid, I thought the concept of an Evil JLA was pretty awesome, and I loved the way the CSA has been updated. The (alternate universe) Gotham City scene between Owlman & Ultraman felt just like one of those Batman & Superman conversations, except that they're evil.
Also, I picked up the latest issues of She-Hulk and Supreme Power...both were great. Hmm, yet another "alternate" version of Superman & Batman. That last panel of SP was so perfect.
With She-Hulk going on a short hiatus, I guess that leaves room to pick up Lapham's Detective run. I wasn't expecting to be sucked back into the Bat-verse, but eh, I'm a Stray Bullets fan, so I might as well follow him there.

That aside, ALIAS is a pretty awesome comic, one of my favorite of the last few years. Wish it was still going, THE PULSE is OK but not quite the same.

Anyone else reading the Adam Strange miniseries? Tremendously entertaining stuff written by Andy Diggle, with great art by Pascal Ferry. Only the first 3 issues (of 8) have come out, so it's not too late to find backissues. Highly recommended, especially for all the great action sequences!

It's a lot smaller than the comic, & b/c the art is so beautiful it really hurts the book being so small, it's even smaller than the Complete Bone softcover, it's not as bo as Bone in color, which I just don't understand, but it does definitely hurt he art.
But my main complaint with this is the paper is so thin the blacks bleed through really making it quite annoying to read. I don't udnerstand why they couldn't use a higher quality paper.

so would you say that it's worth the price? except for the hardcover aspect, if the trade version is better i might be inclined to just not even open up the hc and sell it.

What happened to Kyle. He used to be in the JLA, but I know that he's been replaced by John Stewart. How and why?

actually.. here's the answer. Kyle got a lot of shit tossed on him in his run as GL. But the matter about leaving the JLA..... Lets put it this way, John Stewart is the replacement GL. He has been around for a long time. Hal went on with the corps and did other business and when he is away he leaves sector 2814 to john. This is also what happens when Kyle takes off to save the universe and gain Ion powers since he is the only active space Green Lantern currently.
Johns ring is a copy of Hal's ring and had the Yellow weakness. Kyles on the other hand does not have the yellow weakness. Though they reccently rectonned it so that once the center battery was destroyed, the yellow weakness has been purged from the GL line.
Anyhow, Whenever the main Green Lantern of earth is away, namely in space missions or trying to rebuild the corps and the such, John steps up to the plate and is the GL of 2814. So that's why John is in the JLA. Kyle has had a lot of issues lately and his last action was to take off into space and recovery the body of Hal from the sun.
What's the deal with Guy Gardner? No longer a Green Lantern? Does he just go by Guy Gardner: Warrior? What are his powers now, and how did he get them?
I'm so glad they are getting rid of the warrior crap. It was put in because Guy needed something to keep him around. Instead of rectonning it, Geoff Johns is just trying to fix it up. which is a good thing
When Hal Jordan went off his rocker, I know that he killed some. Who's left in the GL Corps? Anyone at all?
Green Lantern: Rebirth came out this week. FUCK YEAH, Guy is back, I expected it to happen. But the most noted thing is that every GL is going batshit insane because of the ring or when they use the ring. That is why kyle is not using it to heal himself. He doesn't have to be in that state, but he is because he doesn't want to use the ring because of the imperfection.
