HOT!! sale on (certain) comic hardcovers...

this has already been posted in the hot deals forum but for those of you who don't visit there...

Tales of Wonder has recently bought out Graphitti Designs stock of their high priced marvel hardcovers and reduced the price on them. they have the following:

Frank Miller Daredevil HC Vol. 1-3:

Old Price: 39.95
New Price: 27.95

Earth X Deluxe Hardcover Book and stuff:

Old Price: 95.00
New Price : 34.99

Kevin Smith DD (S&N) plus CD:

Old: 69.95
New: 29.99

Thor Visionaries (Simonson S&N):

Old: 69.95
New: 29.95

I have the Frank Miller DD books and they are great. I can also vouch for Tales of Wonder as they are absolutely great to deal with.

Comic Book Bargains

I'm happy to see several comic book threads in this forum and figured I'd contribute one. I see several people here are interested in getting back into comics and there is one serious hindrance to comic books: price. These aren't the greatest deals in the world, but I'm going to give a few examples of some pretty good deals on comics right now.

The best place to find good values would be with Crossgen comics. A lot of people criticize Crossgen and they are having some financial problems right now, but they have done more experimentation with the distribution than all the other companies combined. Sadly, some of their efforts haven't worked out that great.

By far the cheapest way to read a ton of comics right now would be to try Crossgen's comics on the web. Crossgen has posted every comic they've done on their web service with a few months delay. Because of financial problems, do not become a long-term member, but a 3 month membership is only $6. They also have free issues from most of their series to try.
http://www.comicsontheweb.com/

Crossgen's most recent experiment has come in the form of dvds. These dvds use voice-overs and some animation. I was actually pretty disappointed with these, but many people like them and they are fairly cheap. Several other comic companies have plans to do these dvds also. I haven't looked for the Marvel ones yet, but according to the website they're supposed to be out now.
http://www.intecinteractive.com/dcb.asp

If you have to hold the paper in your hands to enjoy the comic, but you don't mind the size, you might try the Traveler line. These are the same as the tpb's that Crossgen normally releases, but smaller and cheaper. I've never ordered from the following site, but they have a good database of tpbs that I use for reference.
http://www.hillcity-comics.com/graph...y/crossgen.htm

Now, in addition to Crossgen, I've found decent deals on two of the best comics ever made. First, what I consider to be the best comic book of all time, Cerebus, has always been a good value, but Amazon is discounting it even more. Cerebus would take too long to describe, but one man started it 25 years ago and planned for it to go 300 issues. Issue 300 comes out next March as always planned and everybody who loves comics should read at least one Cerebus tpb. I'll link to the second volume, since the series did start out a little rough, but you can buy the first 2 volumes for only $35. These tpb's are huge and you'll be getting 1000 pages of story in those first 2 volumes.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...e&s=books&st=*

Blankets is also a thick book and is generally considered to be the best graphic novel of the year. Blankets is a deeply moving autobiographical tale of first love. This might not be for everyone, but I am most definitely not alone in loving this book.

I'd also like to add that Marvel's hardcovers are usually a good deal. They're over-sized, often have extras, and are usually as cheap or cheaper than the collected issues cost originally.

I hope I've been helpful and would love to see other people post bargains here.

The most recent volume of Cerebus was solicited back in August so I'm guessing it should have a November release date. I'll try to confirm though.

From: Texas! Damn right.
I've just discovered the Marvel Essential line (I know... I've been out of comics for a while now ). 20 or so issues each for $15, 'nuff said . The only possible drawback is they're in black and white, but that's okay by me, as that just puts the actual art on better display. Just picked up the Marvel Team-Up Vol. 1 at a second hand shop in great shape, like new really, for half of cover price. Now I make it a point to check the comics for these when I go second hand shopping.

I'm not sure how long they've been around, but I've been shopping with them for about two years. Every month they have a certain number of TPBs from the new Previews catalogue at 50% off.

Picked up Red Son, two Hellboy TPBs, and the Jim Lee Batman figure. Never read Hellboy before, so I hope I'm in for a treat

Just FYI, most TPBs are sold to retailers at 50%, so these are like 'loss leaders'

For people who've never read Hellboy before, I've got another link to free comics:
http://www.hellboy.com/hbcomicsonline.html

Some of the links on that page may be dead, but you may be able to find the missing comics if you do a little searching. Some of those online comics are cool because they'll add a little animation and sound effects.

I do like Crux very much. The 4th TPB comes out this month. I buy them all at Overstock.com with the 10% off.
Comics is the one medium I can't deal with on the web. I still need to hold it in my hands.

But, if you can stand viewing comics on your PC, Marvel started releasing their classic stuff on CD-Rom for $30. 100 issues scanned in each.

I picked up The Matrix Comics TPB for 14.xx(I think it was .50) at Sams Club last night. That's nearly a buck cheaper than Amazon, and they have it for 30% off.

There's some good stuff in it, Neil Gaiman, Geoff Darrow, David Lapham and others.

HOT! $25 off $25 at Dynamic Forces Comics

Maybe this belongs in Hot Deals, but since there's been so much comic discussion here recently, I thought you guys would appreciate it.

Use code GIFTCERT1 during checkout for $25 off a $25 or more purchase. Expires Dec. 31. www.dynamicforces.com

Dynamic Forces publishes a lot of exclusive, alternate, and signed editions of comics from the publishers under license. Their editions usually range from $7 to hundreds of dollars. With this coupon, you could get several comics for free. Also, they do carry a fair number of Trade Paperbacks. Here are some suggestions:

Marvels TPB $16.99
Kingdom Come TPB $11.96
Batman: Long Halloween TPB $15.96
Batman: Dark Victory TPB $15.96
Crisis on Infinite Earths TPB $23.96
Daredevil Yellow Hardcover $23.96
Lots of Marvel "Ultimate" TPB for $10-15
Batman: Dark Knight Strikes Again Hardcover $23.96
Batman: Dark Knight Returns TPB $11.96
Watchman TPB $15.96

If you're just under $25, the cheapest thing I've found so far is:

Battle of the Planets #1/2 Alex Ross DF Exclusive Foil Cover $2.99

I'd feel really guilty about using this coupon at a comic shop. Their margins are already so low. But after seeing their Web site and reading that it wasn't a glitch I was stoked.

Thanks.

Couldn't seem to get this to work, maybe they killed it? Although that would be weird since it still lists the offer on the front page...
