I sold my entire run of Amazing Spiderman to Ted Nugent's agent about 10 years ago...

so I guess I'm a collector AND seller.

Oh, and writer. My first story gets published Jan 2003.

You squeezed "bux" out of "the Nuge?"

Truly you are like unto a god.

Hope so. I'm scheduled to have a 13 page story I wrote published in Akiko #50 by Sirius -- January 2003.

But we'll see if it really happens.

Well, his agent actually.

But I did get backstage passes to see the Nuge when he was with Damn Yankees.

Ted Nugent: "Oh, yeah, hey, you're the guy who sold my agent all those Spiderman things, right?"

Me: "Yep."

Ted Nugent: "I don't read that stuff. But here, have a beer."

The reason I'm asking is because I noticed on many threads there are mentions of cover condition, plastic sleeves ,multiple covers, cover errors and a few on value speculations. It sort of reminds me of my days collecting comic. These are very much the same things a comic collector talks about. I have collected comics for over 28 years and I just recently stopped---too many hacks and the prices are really outrageous at times. Collecting DVDs seems like the same thing to me; sort of like a step up from comic books. Also, with DVDs I can at least share them with my wife. She hated it when I collected comics. Collecting DVDs she doesn't mind at all.
My buddy and I used to just collect.
We finally opened up a comic shop earlier
this year. It is getting there, just got to get
more people in the door :-)

I collected The Uncanny X-men from about 1986 to 1989, along w/ GI Joe mainly...my little brother collected w/ me also and he primarily bought X-Factor (and some New Mutants). I quit buying because of the prices (I was buying w/ my allowance) and started buying sports cards for about three years (which I also quit buying because of the price and because the market became saturated w/ far too many companies). I got back into comics a little bit off and on - I have some of the really early issues of Wolverine (I wish they would make a movie around his origin story) and the first few issues of X-Force...what I really need to do is get all of these comics into sleeves w/ cardboard backing. I have been meaning to do this for years and I finally got them out of my parents house and are storing them in my basement (I plan on holding on to them for quite some time).

bahist17, you and me both.

X-Men
Uncanny X-Men
X-Force
New Mutants
Silver Surfer

and every spinoff that came along...until I just said no. Marvel just got too greedy. I also read Spawn, TMNT (before the movie) and Batman.

One of my all-time fave titles was Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman. peep this

Now I do DVD.

I had that one as a kid but sold it. Wolverine only showed up in the last page I think. I still have Hulk 182, which is the first cover with Wolverine, and he is featured through out the whole book.

My dad got me hooked on collecting in 1987 when he bought me my first baseball cards. I Collected a massive amount of comics and baseball cards up until around 95, when I felt prices got ridiculous, and there were just too many companies around. Aside from having my own large collections, my dad gave me his family's collections. A lot of them would be graded in poor-not worth anything condition due to lots of cover wrinkles and tears, bent pages, and cutouts(for offers in them like toys, sea monkeys, grenades, whatever crazy stuff they had back then), but I must say it is pretty cool having The Amazing Spider-Man #1-3(all in poor condition with pretty crappy covers), DareDevil #1(which is missing a huge cutout chunk of the cover), and plenty of other #1's and low counts for others. I haven't even looked at any of them since I quit collecting - my cousin and I(who ended up getting to take away some of the collection, including some #1's so we would have an equal share, after my aunt complained to my dad about me getting everything) put everything in slide covers, hard cases for the valuables, boxed them up, and put them away at my parents house with my card collection(which is enormous). Some day I may pull everything out and organize, but I will never get rid of any of it.

I have many many comic books. I stop collecting due to the fact that I was running out of space to put them.

If you are currently about 65 years old, that's really cool!

I was mad crazy in the early 90's collecting everyting under the sun. Tons of early Image stuff sits in boxes in my basement never having been read (and maybe never will be). Now I buy a few comics regularly including Amazing Spider-Man (I like Romita Jr.), Batman (liked Scott McDaniel, getting now for Jim Lee's run). I just stopped Green Arrow and will be giving Wolverine a try(Rucka & Robertson's new run) as well as the new Thunder Agents.

Other than that I've found that I really enjoy some Japanese manga serials like Raijin Comics & Shonen Jump. These are great values in today's market. Jump especially which is monthly and a few hundered pages for only $4.95. Raijin is smaller and comes out weekly for $4.95 each. I highly recommend both.

I love the X-Men. I like Spider-Man. As for decent issues, our lists our similar, jonpeters! I have...

2x Giant Size X-Men 1
Incredible Hulk 180
Incredible Hulk 181
Uncanny X-men 1
Star Wars 1
Iron Fist 14

Forget it. Too many to list. Last I checked, I have about 14,000 comics. Read all but about 1600 of 'em. Such a waste.....

First App of Banshee, 2x Phoenix AND Dark Phoenix, 2x Both Issues DoFuture Past...Pretty much every X-Men issue from 100-November of last year. Money's been tight.
