I haven't decided where I would rank The Five among Robert McCammon's other novels, but I'm a big fan of his books, and I would definitely recommend this one. The description at Amazon or Subterranean Press tells you as much as you really need to know about the story without giving too much away. If that interests you even a little bit, I'd say give it a chance.

Started the Harry Potter series for the first time on Monday. Currently halfway through Prisoner of Azkaban.
So far the books have been very repetitive. I'm hoping they get better.

I'm on my first reading as well. (watching each movie after each book as well) The early books all flow about the same. It gets more complicated and darker as the story progresses.
They get longer too, the first book: 320 pages, Order of the Phoenix: 870 pages
