Kindle Fans - 6 inch vs the 9.7 inch
When reading a book on a Kindle...which do you guys prefer?
The bigger one for the massive screen?
Or other than portability and price....is there a reason to go with the 6 inch one?

Re: Kindle Fans - 6 inch vs the 9.7 inch
I'm coming at this from a readers point of view. Not as someone who is a fan of technology. I don't have an Iphone or Ipod. Only reason I want to get a Kindle is to facilitate reading.
That's interesting that you view it as an extension of a paperback.
I tend to read hardcovers with bigger pages. But people have complained that the 9.7 is too big....although they've also complained that the 6 inch is too small.
If you are not reading on the go...which size is better.

If I was looking at PDFs a lot, I'd want the DX. Otherwise the 6 inch is a good size for reading, it's comfortable to hold due to the size and weight (I think the DX is about twice the weight), and it's easy to read on.

I looked on mobileread. Not surprisingly, the people with both don't really use their kindle 2s anymore, and say weight is not an issue (and it's sort of made-up-for by being able to use bigger fonts and still get fewer page turns).
No one said they bought the DX, didn't like it in comparison and returned it.
So there ya go, better buy the DX.

Re: Kindle Fans - 6 inch vs the 9.7 inch
I have the Kindle 2. I don't find it too small. I really can't imagine needing a larger screen and I read at least an hour a day on it. One of the primary reasons for getting a Kindle, for me, was the weight of books. My wrists and arms would start hurting if I read lying down for a while. Kindle 2 pretty much eliminates that. I think the DX weight might be too much for me.
If you're looking at PDFs with pictures/diagrams, you might need the DX. If you're looking at PDFs that are only text, you can convert those to another format using Calibre and it should present the text in a more readable font size.
Here's my disclosure, though: If I had the money, I would totally go for the DX!

I don't own a Kindle but my wife does. It has been our experience the she usually prefers it bigger, but the 6-incher has kept her completely satisfied. She often uses it when I'm away at work or when we're in bed when I'm too tired to stay up with her. Of course, she prefers the deeper verbal intercourse I provide, but when I am uavailable to sate her input needs, the smaller Kindle fits her well.

Those are all interesting points.
Interesting notion raised....for those who have both which one did they still use? Am surprised that it's the bigger one.
And do you get the warranty?

I've played with the DX, and I much prefer the Kindle 2. The DX is just way too big. I tend to read curled up on the sofa or in bed, and the Kindle 2 is better for side reading. It also fits in my relatively small purse so I have it everywhere I go. I have it in one of the nice M-Edge leather cases with the light pocket built in. So convenient.

I have both for different reasons. I use my DX for reading technical study guides, PDFs, and manga primarily - I'll use it occasionally for fiction reading. It's especially nice for poetry such as The Illiad.
I like the Kindle 2 to take to work and read during lunch - the DX is a bit big for me to feel comfortable taking along.
