Re: What are you reading? (March 2009)
The first 150 pages I had no idea where the book was heading but then after that it was pretty good. I thought it was going to be about how comics changed culture back in the 40's and 50's and how it lead in to television but it was only about how people and government tried to censor comic books.
I had no idea that comics made back in the 40's were so violent, I always thought they were like Archie!
All in all not a bad book if you can past the beginning.

Saw that this made NPR's top 5 mysteries of 2008 (here) -- let us know what you think.
Thanks for the top 5 link, I'll definitely have to try to check those out, as well as getting part two of the Millennium trilogy of Stieg Larsson, "The Girl Who Played With Fire" (which was already released in the UK).

Leet us know what you think of Twilight? I saw the movie, and it was like watching paint dry. I know a few people that read the books just to keep up with what their daugthers were reading, and they basically said the books were just awful.
This is on my "To Read" list. Let us know what you think of it.

I think that I am finally going to take a crack at the last Dexter novel and see if it is as bad as most people think that it is:

I think that it would be great in addition to listing what we are reading, we should briefly give thoughts on the books we've finished. I know the review thread is there, but it doesn't seem like many people use it.
I just finished the latest Dexter book and was very disappointed, even though I had low expectations going in. Definitely the worst in the series, and the writing of the television show far exceeds what this book was.
As for my next book to read, even though I am not a religious person, I figure that I'd see what all the fuss was about:

Just Finished:

My first hard case crime book - not great by any means. I suppose I can't expect much since the novel is based around a gimmick anyway (each chapter is the name of one of the previous books in the series in order).
I'll probably try another one as I'm interested in the genre, but haven't read much of it beyond dashiell hammett and raymond chandler.
