Watching Signs yesterday on TNT get me interested in stories of aliens invading Earth. I mean all of Earth, not some tiny little farm. All countries getting attacked. I'm talking full on invasion. No hiding it. Everyone knows and doing what they can to stop it or cope with it.

Think: Signs, ID4, War of the Worlds type invasions.


Any books like this out there?

Read the "Nephilim" series. its a trilogy but its a really good series of books. i got them really cheap from ebay

John Ringo's Human-Posleen War books (the first one is A Hymn Before Battle) are about this.

Harry Turtledove has the "alternate history" series World War which deals with a global alien invasion. I have the first book in the series but have never gotten around to reading it, so i can't tell you how good it is but the series seems to get pretty good reviews on Amazon.

Battlefield Earth isn't even worth taking a second glance at. It's some 1000+ pages that simply drones on and on. It's an absolute bore. I had to force myself (pure torture on my part) to actually finish the novel. Horrendous author.

I've gotten many recommendations for Harry Turtledove from various friends, but I can't find it at any library.

OP, great idea for a thread and some interesting suggestions (minus Hubbard) that I'll definitely be looking into. One that I would suggest would he The Tripod Tetralogy by John Christopher (I believe he only wrote 4 in the series). Very similar The War of the Worlds, but told more from the adolescent perspective and garnered more for the younger crowd, but definitely an excellent and classic series.

I made it to about page 500 in this book before I quit. It wasn't that bad, but I agree with you that it was a bit too long. I didn't like how everyone in the book was obsessed with how great Johnny Goodboy Tyler was. The book is worth checking out for the first 200 pages because of the interesting interaction between the alien and the human.
