History Books
Recently I started to really become interested in history, mainly modern history, and mainly topics dealing with dramatic changes in a country. So I picked up a few books, namely these:

I've started reading Evans' first book and I must say it's a great read. Having read about 100 pages, I can already say I learned a lot more about the subject than I previously thought I knew. I find the subject of the rise of the Nazis wholly fascinating, and this series of books purport to be the definitive account of that. Also picked up a similar work on the Russian Revolution. This books seems to be out of print, but I managed to find a brand new copy for under $20, and should have it soon.

I wanted the most comprehensive version, one that would cover as much detail as possible, and Evans' books seem to be doing that. Also, Shirer's book, while supposedly quite good, was writen quite a long time ago, and new information has surfaced since. In his introduction, Evans writes why he felt the need for a new all-encompasing history of the Third Reich. It will span three thick volumes (third one to be published in 2007-8).
