Hey, if they don't want the book, I'll take it.

That's Scribner for ya... They didn't even send me an ARC.

They were passing 'em out at BEA last May, but people swarmed on them like locusts.

I'm curious to read it, but King's books are usually so looooonng.

I got it a regional trade show, the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Assocation Trade Show. They were handing them out pretty liberally.

That's the beauty of being someone like King. The publishers all but guarantee the book will make the List.

Got a copy of this today. Looks like it might be good -- got some great pre-pub reviews.

I'm just afraid that it's going to be like Gerald's Game, for some reason. The description makes it sound like one of those bad non-horror books he was writing for awhile in the 90's.

If it turns out to be anywhere near like Gerald's Game, this new book would be a MUST-HAVE in my library. I simply enjoyed GG - how could you not - because it placed you in a situation like: what would "you" do to get yourself out of that predicament?

Sadly, I don't think this new book will be in the same league as GG. Here's to hoping for a good King book after many, many years...

I'm reading bag of bones now. So far its a load of crap. However, none of the supernatural stuff has happen. I'm not sure if there is supernatural stuff to tell you the truth. Only on page 145. Some kid gets picked out of the street before her mom runs her down by accident.

I found Bag of Bones to be great. However, I own the unabridged audio book on 20 CD's and it is read by Stephen King, himself. If you haven't ever listened to an audio book read by Stephen, you should. It is a real treat.

I have listened to it several times and it never gets old...

I thought GG (and the aforementioned Bag of Bones) were two of King's worst books ever. Just my opinion.

I've enjoyed King's last few...Cell was pretty good, loved the last three Dark Tower books, and enjoyed Everything's Eventual's stories. From A Buick 8 was decent.

I finished Lisey's Story and found it to be quite entertaining. It's not a great book, but it's certainly a good one. One thing to note is that, although the book does have some supernatural elements in it, it's mainly a love story.

If anyone's curious, my review of Lisey's Story ran over the weekend in the Chicago Sun-Times.

For some goofy reason, Doubleday isn't shipping my copy until 10/31.

Ah well. I can wait.

This is the first time in many years I did not purchase a brand new King book the day it was released. I was at the local Walmart yesterday and they had it for $18.88, the cover alone was a piece of crap. I just read the jacket review and I put it right back. Did not even think about buying it. If this is what the future holds for Mr King I would say retire already and save us from buying this crap. I say BOO Mr King...

Spoken like someone who didn't bother to read it.

As far as Lisey's Story goes, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not wanting another Gerald's Game/Bag of Bones type book. However, I'll read anything that King writes - he's surprised me before, and he's written enough great material to earn the benefit of the doubt, no matter what.

Gerald's Game I loved - why, because it could happen. That girl, Jess, could have been your mother, my sister, his wife, her babysitter. "Bag of Bones" just lost me somewhere. The book "Cell" just had a dumb premise (and no, I didn't bother to read it, so maybe I shouldn't be so critical), but King's track record lately has been reduced dramatically from the King we knew before.

I doubt if Liney's Story is the comeback we all wished for. I hope I'm wrong.

Well my wife today offered to buy me Lisey's Story at Walmart. As crazy as it sounds I turned it down, this is NOT the Stephen King I have been reading for over 25 years. Not even close...
