:( I'll very soon be cancelling a couple of magazine subscriptions on the grounds that not finishing even one book during the whole of January is outrageous: I used to read a couple most weeks!

dyevin 02-01-04 05:01 PM

just finished:
the contortionist's handbook - craig clevenger

currently reading:
flowers for algernon - daniel keyes
the great and secret show - clive barker
fahrenheit 451 - ray bradbury
abarat - clive barker

Right now I'm in the middle of the amazingly entertaining The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I see a lot of posts in this forum regarding comic books, so I think a lot of people would find the subject matter interesting. It's about two young men getting in on the ground floor of the super hero comics in the late 1930's. There are a lot of thoughful paralels found between the superhero mythos and the Nazi's, Houdini and Jewish myths. One of the most engaging books I've picked up in awhile.

Giantrobo 02-02-04 03:40 AM

Risen by J. Knight

It's about people coming back to life but so far it's not the Living Dead book I wanted to read. But we'll see. Perhaps it will get better.

The book I read just before this one called "The Rising" by Brian Keene kicked major ass. Not only was it full of action, it was full of scary gory fun and the story is interesting.

Quake1028 02-02-04 02:43 PM

I also did not read a single book in January. My goal for the month is 5.

Angels & Demons - Dan Brown

Nighthawk 02-02-04 05:09 PM

Right now I'm on
The Grames of Wrath -- John Steinbeck
and
All Tomorrow's Parties -- William Gibson

After those I'm onto this whatever is sitting on my ever growing tower of 'to read' books.

Gee Geofferson, what took you so long to get around to that one? Just kidding of course, how are you liking it so far? I thought it was pretty good, as was the follow up Sleeping Dogs.

BTW, Perry seems to have forgotten he started his website, as it hasn't been updated since the first time I found it. I keep waiting for news of Dead Aim going to paperback since it has been December 02 since he released it as a hard cover. Have you heard anything on when his next book will be out or when Dead Aim will go to PB?

Current books for class (Bolded as I finish them):

Bible Doctrine by Wayne Grudem
Worship by the Book - Edited by D.A. Carson
Reaching Out Without Dumbing Down + A Royal "Waste" of Time - Marva Dawn
Worship in Spirit and Truth - John Frame
Ancient-Future Faith - Robert Webber
Truth or Consequences - Millard Erickson

When I come up from reading all of those in the next month, I plan on reading these books for fun:

Ronald Reagan - Dinesh D'Sozua
My First Movie: Twenty Celebrated Directors Talk About Their First Film
Ethics - D. Bonhoffer

NZ_DVD_Freak 02-03-04 02:05 AM

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

I'm reading Deception Point too. Just started a week ago and am about halfway through. I expect to get another good chunk in today at the doctor's office. I think it's a pretty good read so far. I started with Angels & Demons and then Da Vinci Code and I still have Digital Fortress in the "to be read pile".

I've been alternating authors and genres. Before this I read the last Artemis Fowl book (I like the new "kid" fiction lately).

The next book I think is going to either be the new Grisham or something from the pile.

Now reading Daniel Keyes' Flowers for Algernon.

Up next, Kurt Vonnegut's Welcome to the Monkey House.

I am still reading the Dark Tower series. With the semester going full steam ahead I haven't even touched the book since Xmas break. Maybe I can finish by the end of the year :)

Braddok 02-04-04 09:01 AM

Just finished "Monsoon" by Wilbur Smith. A good read but a little too drawn out for me.

Started "Inside Out" by Ole Anderson. About 40 pages into it. It's off to a good start

Deckard-10 02-04-04 09:26 PM

Just Finished:

A Scanner Darkly, by Philip K. Dick.

Up Next:

The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury

silentbob007 02-05-04 07:54 AM

Turned to my stressed out, comfort book:

The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King

birdseye 02-05-04 10:33 AM

Just started Secret Prey by John Sanford. I've been working my way through the series and it's been great so far.

tonyc3742 02-05-04 10:42 AM

I've enjoyed every Prey book.

I'm reading 'The Burning Man' by Philip Margolin. It's the weirdest thing--as I read each page, I get a sense of deja-vu, like I've read it before, but I don't "remember" the story before I get to it. I'm 1/2 way through, so I'm going to go ahead and finish it [again?], but it's still weird.

Flowers for Algernon is excellent. Definitely a classic.

Tsar Chasm 02-05-04 11:51 AM

Just finished - Deception Point - Dan Brown

Now - The Last Juror - Grisham

Finished Angels & Demons last night. Fantastic read. Tonight I will start up Digital Fortress, also by Mr. Brown.

Anjanettea 02-05-04 04:05 PM

I haven't read anything but the following:
Federal Courts
Real Estate Transactions
Corporations
4th Amendment Seminar

I would love to stop reading for law school, and just read something I enjoy, but that's the price I pay.

Entertaining, isn't it.

Phooey to law school.
