There is also a series of ebooks being released titled Mere Anarchy. I have not read any of these as I wait for hard copies on ebooks but they have been getting good reviews.
If you ever wanted to know more about Captain Pike Margaret Wander Bonano's book Burning Dreams is very good and gives lots of back story.
The Star Trek: Vanguard series is set in the TOS time period but do not feature TOS characters, only in cameo roles.
Kevin Ryan's Janus Gate trilogy is also a very fun read and he has a second trilogy called Errand of Fury. So far only the first book has been released with the second due in February.
There is also a TOS book called Constellations, a collection of TOS short stories written by their best authors. One of the stories in the collection called "Make Believe" is worth the price of the book alone. It is not only one of the best Star Trek stories I have ever read but one of the best short stories I have ever read period. Very moving.

I must admit, ktrek, you have me very, very intrigued. The decision to walk away from TREK novelized fiction, especially after building up such a massive library of it, was not remotely easy...Ordover should be damned...

Not the pulp throw away books of the past.

I have them all just about I stopped collecting them when they got retarded and every damn new one was a tie in with another series. Then 3 book series this series that they burned me out on that crap haven't bought one since. But Id say I have every single one up to 97 or so. Which has to be over 400 easy i guess not sure. Some autographed as well that I had signed. Like few signed by scotty, sulu, chick that played the vulcan chick in star trek 3 the novel about her I had her sign. Few others too I think.
Also have one mag autographed by the 3 captains(at the time, no janeway). Anyway I agree there was a LOT of great books back in the day.....man how time flies.

Re: Star Trek books
I have several Star Trek books: Strangers From The Sky (Margaret Wander Bonanno), Vendetta (Peter David), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (J.M. Dillard), The Wounded Sky (Diane Duane), TNG #13: The Eyes Of The Beholders (A.C. Crispin), TNG #21: Chains Of Command (Bill McCay & Eloise Flood), and the aforemention Federation (Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens). I thought Federation was pretty good, but my favorite (and the one I've read several times so far) is Strangers From The Sky (although it's been so long since I've read the others, I don't remember them; I need to re-read them).
After seeing Prime Directive recommended I'm going to keep my eyes out for it. -kd5-
