A Stolen Life: Jaycee Dugard
I am currently listening to the audio book of A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard. This is a very tough book to make it through, it is even tougher considering Jaycee is the person doing the reading of the audio book. I have no clue how this poor girl made it through what she did. Phillip and Nancy Garrido (kidnappers) are two of the sickest human beings on the planet. Jaycee doesn't censor or candy coat anything. She goes into excruciating detail about the things that happen to her. Jesus Christ these what she calls "runs" that he put her through are absolutely horrific. Anyone else read the book? I did a forum search, but I didn't see a thread about the book.

I read it, and I know a couple others did as well, look in the What Are You Reading Threads from the last month or two.
It is a very difficult book to read. Very difficult. I know she got a few bad reviews because of how open and honest she was about her experience.
Not sure what people expected from this book, her entire life is wrapped up in this, what else was she going to write about?
One thing is very obvious, the State of California Corrections screwed up big time. NOt sure if any of the people who conducted the 60+ visits and didn't see the obvious are still in their employ, if so .. they all need to be fired.

Everyone responsible for Phil Garrido's not being locked up during that time should be required to read this, so they can know what happened because of their negligence (this guy already went to prison for rape and was released decades earlier than his original sentence, with the provision he be watched). I bought the regular book, I thought about getting the audio version but thought that might be a little tough to listen to- if she doesn't omit anything that's in the book then she's really strong for talking about it. News today says she's suing the federal government now for letting him get away with so much before he was put back in prison.

I'm currently reading her book right now and it has been hard read for me. I give Jaycee much credit for doing this. I agree with Alan Smithee the people who failed to see that Phillip was keeping her should be definitely read this book.

After watching her in the Diane Sawyer interview and after reading her book... I think 20 million was a bargain. I hope she successfully sues everybody and anybody she can.
