Typos and spelling/punctuation errors in books

Anyone know what sort of reviewal process books go through before they're published?

It seems that whatever I read, I always come across a few typos, spelling or punctuation errors.

I have been seeing it a lot lately also. To me it a lot of it seems like the type of errors that spellchecker would not get, using the wrong homonym, etc.
