CNN has corrected themselves. It now says:
- The Bible: 774,000 (Old Testament 593,000, New Testament 181,000)

That seems a lot more reasonable.

I actually like the Levine/Scholastic editions because the narrower line spacing of Bloomsbury British edition can be hard to read for younger readers.

It'll be interesting to see when we will see the covers for the new Harry Potter novel, though.

I put a "pre-order" in for the book on Amazon.com.

Unfortunately the estimated date of shipping reads "6/23," with an arrival date of "7/2."

Most likely I'll try to find a local bookstore and do a pre-order there - thereby cancelling my Amazon pre-order.

Somehow I think Amazon got slammed with orders when this announcement was made.

Anyone know what the actual MSRP will be? I know if I pre-ordered this thing through Ingram, I could get it up to a week early at 43% off.

No kidding Movielib, do not buy the first printing if you are going to just horde it to try to sell it later. By this stage of the game it's already over and the 1st printing of a book in it's fifth installment with such popularity is just going to end up with a ton of folks trying to make something special that isn't.

First printing of book one is worth so much since so few were printed. book 5 will have zillions of first printed books.

On a little tease though, here is the first words of the book:

The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.....The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.
and here is some more words from later on:

"Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses.

'It is time,' he said 'for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry.

Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.'"

As stated by Bloomsbury.

I can't wait.

Does Barnes and Noble take reservations/pre-orders at their B&M stores?

Great news! I'll probably pick it up at midnight at a bookstore. But I did find an article that states bn.com will deliver by June 21... Don't know if that's accurate or not, but worth a shot if you don't want to go to a b&m to pick it up.

I'm not sure I would trust buy.com with getting this to me in a speedy fashion, though their price is great if it helps drive down the prices of others.

yeah, they used to have pre-order forms. now you can just order it and they can put a hold on it until publication time and then the computer will "shop" one for you and send it on....however, you have to make sure the clerk knows you're ordering something that isn't out yet so they put it on hold. but with this book, i'm sure the managers will probably arrange something thru the store.

You got it! http://msnbc.com/news/860784.asp

AMAZON.COM SAID it took only two hours after becoming available for pre-order for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” to reach the top-selling spot.

I've read the whole series twice and recently purchased the UK hardcover set. I'm in my last semester of grad school and finishing my thesis. I'll have enough time to get done, read the series, and then pick up book 5. Too perfect.

those ordering from Amazon.uk may just want to order from AMAZON.CA... it would probably be cheaper... the canadian books are the same as the UK editions....

Publisher Doubles Print Run Of New Potter Book

http://www.nbc4.tv/entertainment/197...402122003&ts=H

'Phoenix' First Run Will Be 6.8 Million Copies

POSTED: 10:50 a.m. EST February 12, 2003
UPDATED: 11:10 a.m. EST February 12, 2003

Publishers of the new Harry Potter book will meet a lot of demand with a lot of books.

Scholastic Children's Books says "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" will have a first printing of 6.8 million books.

That's 3 million more than the last Potter book, which sold out within 48 hours of being released in July 2000.

The fifth installment in the wildly popular Potter series won't actually hit stores until June 21.

But it already tops several best seller lists, with Potter-starved fans placing early orders.

Scholastic has announced the book will retail for about $30 -- making it almost certainly the most expensive price of a new children's book.

Fans will get a lot for the money. The book is expected to run around 900 pages.

I think this is my first post in the Book Talk Forum. Well, I don't read the HP books, but I thought this was interesting to those that are interested!

are you from the uk? i mean i don't see why not just get it here - £8 is roughly the same price as the $12 bux you'd spend on amazon in the states.

He probably wants to get the original UK text. They do change some of the writing to more American terms in the US version. Terms that they feel most Americans will not understand.

Just FYI, overstock has a new coupon for 10% off plus a dollar shipping.

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?cid=20738

That would make HP5 13.94 shipped. That's the cheapest I've seen...
