The Night The DeFeo's Died: Reinvestigating the Amityville Murders

Has anyone read this 2001 release from author Ric Osuna? It's an actual fact-based account of the murders that were committed during the early morning of November 13, 1974 by Ronald DeFeo (age 24). He murdered his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers.

Of course, this sensational serial murder was eclipsed by the fiction created by DeFeo's lawyer and the Amityville house's new owners about demons and possession, which later became "The Amityville Horror."

We all know the story of "The Amityville Horror" and the Lutz family about which the story is based. But there has not been a true crime film drama about the actual murders two years before -or about the horrors that predated the killings involving the DeFeo family (that has nothing to do with supernatural doings, just plain old cruelty at the hands of the patriarch towards his wife and five children).

A great read, and I hope they make a movie about this, sans the silliness, because we all know that real life can be horrible enough when people are out of their minds.

There was this book about the DeFeo murders about 20 years ago:

High Hopes: The Amityville Murders by Gerard Sullivan

This is an excellent book by the D.A. who prosecuted Ronald "Butch" DeFeo, Jr. and also contains a fair amount of debunking of the Lutz's story, IIRC.

I haven't read the new book but I found this paragraph in one of the reviews of the new book on Amazon:
This book was largely based on the word of a woman claiming to have been married to Ronald DeFeo at the time of the murders, but the explanations given as to why she played no part in the initial investigation, or the subsequent murder trial are more humorous, than anything else. The author is insistent that he's verified this, and stresses her authenticity. However, the one simply undeniable submission of proof (a certificate of marriage) is again, nowhere to be found. For the lack of this one piece of evidence, is where this entire story takes a nose dive. The first book written about the DeFeo murders titled "High Hopes" (which this book attempts to discredit) was by far more fascinating and well written than this book could hope to be. It's author, Gerard Sullivan, was the prosecuting attorney at DeFeo's murder trial, who wrote the book from the testimonial transcripts. I bought that book almost twenty years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. If you're interested in reading about the Amityville murders, then that would be the book to read. ...
Apparently these two books tell quite a different story about the DeFeo murders. In any event, the one thing that is certain is that the Amityville Horror story is a hoax.

Today is November 13th, and it is exactly 28 years today since the killings occurred.

One tends to wonder the feelings and/or emotions the killer Ron DeFeo is feeling on his family's murder anniversary.

He's probably thinking "I made the Lutz family rich and all I got was this stupid orange jumpsuit."
