Boring Post Cards

Has anyone seen this book? My gf spotted Boring Post Cards USA at Borders this afternoon and showed it to me.

There's a surreal fascination to this book. It's entirely a selection of picture post cards from the 50s and 60s, from the collection of artist Martin Parr.

Ugly buildings, badly decorated hotel lobbies, factories, nondescript Main Streets, and roadside diners. A picture of a bend in the interstate with the caption "Scenic Indiana." Proud pictures of the new three-story bank. Arial shots of shopping centers.

There is no introduction or text of any kind except for the caption reprinted from the back of the card. I thought that the result was creepy and funny. Some other people on the Amazon site thought that it was sad.

i did a paper on american postcards a while back and came across this book. i thought it was hilarious just b/c companies/businesses feel the need to produce them! they are quite sad, really. i can only imagine the people who decide to mail them.
