Cornfed

Lately I've gotten a few recommendations for Cornelia Funke's The Thief Lord. After reading all the Harry Potter books, I moved on to Philip Pullmans' 'His Dark Materials' series. I put the second book on hold as I just started reading Palahniuk's Lullaby. Can anyone else here recommend The Thief Lord?
