Hello All,

I use Yahoo Companion to manage my bookmarks. It seems lot of my bookmarks have simply disappeared. I guess I can't rely on the Yahoo Companion. Can you folks help me add to the list below. I am looking for discount stores selling tech books.

Amazon.com
Barnesandnoble.com
Borders.com
fatbrain.com
bookpool.com
booksamillion.com
hamilton.com - Thanks Boot
bookcloseouts.com
half.com
bookfinder.com - Search Engine
1bookstreet.com
a1books.com
kingbooks.com or addall.com - search engines
powells.com
allbooks4less.com

Thanks in advance for your help

Suharsh

Check out Hamilton Books. It may not have what you're looking for, but if it does it'll be dirt cheap. Plus, it will often have what you didn't know you were looking for.

cheapest place to buy books online (USA)

i've never posted in this forum before. i've never even been here before to be honest! but as i get older i get more literary and may spend more and more time here. anyway to business. i want to get a book from the good ol' US of A because it's not available in my native England. which online book-retailer do you use and could recommend. i know of amazon.com but was wondering if there were any better/cheaper/more reliable alternatives to them?

thanks in advance.

Here's a place for bargains (mostly remainder books): www.bookcloseouts.com

Here's a search site to find the cheapest retailer for a specific book: www.bookpricer.com

I just picked up A Storm of Swords (the third Song of Ice and Fire book) from ecampus.com for $8.50 (plus another $8 for 2nd day UPS)... even then it was still $10 less than the cover price.

Their prices arent that good on other books I've looked up there though.

Try Powell's Books. www.powells.com They have a huge selection and pretty good prices. Luckily, I live down the street from them.

It's too bad you're in England because I was going to recommend half.com. I've bought tons of out-of-print books for next to nothing. The Blackwater series by Michael McDowell, the Chtorr novels by David Gerrold, every OOP novel I could find by John Farris, etc. All way below the cover price and about 1/4 of what I'd pay going through abebooks.com. But, of course, this is probably irrelevant to you, so I'll shut up now.

www.half.com (works great for me -- I've picked up quite a number of different old, OOP books here -- at very good prices in great condition.)

www.abebooks.com -- good for older/rarer titles.

www.abe.com is easily the best used/rare/newish book site out there. a plethora of books stores around the world put their inventory on abe.

I simply go with the used editions that are sold right alongside the new at www.amazon.com.

Only once was a book sent to me in less than perfect condition.

Problem with the used books on Amazon is they are usually individual owners...so the shipping costs for multiple orders really adds up

Amazon is now partnered (or something) with Bibliofind.com. It looks at multiple used bookstores. But the finders fee at bookfinder is the lower for the same book in the same store.

www.powells.com; Powells in Portland Oregon is the west coast equivalent of Manhattan's Strand (not quite so 'funky' but gigantic as heck). They have a wonderful online site offering most of their gazillion used books.
