Print will be officially dead when I can read a computer in the bathtub ... and I don't care if I doze off and drop the e-magazine in the water.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
Egon was also in that somewhat craptastic sequel (
) so I don't know how smart he actually is
I prefer reading hardcopy, so I can take it with me where ever I go and it causes less eye strain

Nick Danger, you can read the eBook if you put the device inside a Ziploc-type baggie. If you seal it inside with just a little bit of air, but not too much, the thing will float if you drop in the tub. That way, you can find it amongst the bubbles and rubbie duckies. ;) ;)

Hey I *LOVED* the sequel...maybe even more than the original. No joke - it's one of my all-time favorite movies. Never understood why people started to rank on it. I thought it followed the same pattern while staying fresh and was VERY FUNNY.

Pathetic attempt to keep your own thread alive

It's less blatant if you don't wait a week or so to reply, LBPound23.
(I expect a reply to this around 10/18/01)

You know you love the mood slime, renaldow.
Bring yourself to admit it.

I do love the mood slime, especially when you put it in the toaster.

I almost didn't reply to that so as to allow this thread to die peacefully. But, who am I to pull the plug on the life support?

After reading 3 or so bad books in a row, I'm starting to agree with Egon now. Print may be dead. A bad movie takes less than 2 hours of your life, a bad book can take days

Actually I agree....I have way too little time to read bad books and yet plenty of time to see bad movies...especially if they're free.

I've had generally good luck with books, but lately I haven't at all. 3 out of 3 have been pretty poor or fair to middlin' at best. There was a time I wouldn't dream of not finishing a book, but 2 out of the 3 I had to put down in mid stream.
One of them, was so completely horrible I kept feeling that it was almost going to be over and then I'd see, nope, I'm only about half way through it. Oh the agony!
How do these shmucks get printed?!?!

I always force myself to finish the bad books and it does suck when you put all that time in and the story doesn't pay off. I've been fortunate of late and liked most everything I've read.

With eBooks, you can browse the various books at home instead of having to go to the bookstore. Ooops, that is a negative feature for me. I happen to like visiting bookstores, new and used, to look for things and rediscover used books with better covers than the ones I already have. Bookstores that I wouldn't miss out browsing at include Borders; they just feel less inviting than B&N stores.

How ironic that print may be dead and yet this thread refuses to die
To stay on topic, I too have had bad luck with books lately. I just spent over 2 weeks reading a POS Tom Clancy novel (Rainbow Six) that was about 300 pages too long. And I force myself to finish reading it because if I stop halfway through it I know I'll never go back and finish. With Rainbow Six and now Red Dragon, that makes 4 bad books in a row I've endured.
I'm about 50 pages in to Michael Crichton's Timeline and so far it isn't bad so maybe my streak will end at 4.

Anyway, I recently read John Grisham's The Brethren and I got through it very quickly. Even when his style sort of ticks you off, and it's not the best story you've read, his work is SO engaging. I hadn't read a book like that for leisure in some time and it was good to be able to do that again.
I know this goes against what Egon says, but in doing that, you sort of get the feeling that print is immortal. (Just like this thread.)
