I think you mean Clark, right? Jack Ryan wasn't in "Without Remorse"... although I think his Dad was.

I would start with Red storm rising, the pick up with the start of the jack ryan series, which would be hunt for red october.

My favorites: Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Hunt for Red October. Plus a couple others. But, after the latest ( Bear and The Dragon ) I think I'm finished with his books.

Are any other readers disappointed over the way Clancy's writing has (IMO) deteriorated over the past two books?

In my mind, Rainbow Six was his worst book thus far....

Did anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?
Yep, I'm with you, Skywalker

A friend of mine had the same reaction as I (and you) did after Rainbow Six

I heard a rumor that Clancy is using a ghost writer (?) - rumors are rumors so I'll assume it's false but I'd be interested if anyone else heard or read anything about that.

Having said that I'll never miss a movie based on a Clancy book. I think that his books adapt well to movies for a few reasons.

1. Clancy is a good researcher, which seems to be a rare trait among Hollywood screenwriters. His books contain the gadgets and science that screenwriters are too lazy to research themselves.

2. Clancy's books are easily condensed into a 2 hour movie. The books contain a lot of unecessary descriptions/detail.

3. The quality of a book writer's prose isn't that important when adapting a book to movie.

-all my opinions, putting on my asbestos suit...

Definitely Red Storm Rising.

On a similar topic, does anybody have any predictions on the upcoming movie, "Sum of All Fears"? I wonder how faithful it'll be to the book... will they actually do that Super Bowl scene at the end?

I guess the Arab terrorists have been changed to neo-nazis.
