Catch-22 - Josef Heller
On the Road - Jack Keruoac Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson |
1) THE ODYSSEY by Homer
2) TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee 3) THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS by Thomas Harris |
In no particular order:
The Ceremonies by T.E.D. Klein Sacrifice by John Farris Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky--Before I read this, I thought that this type of novel could only be enjoyed by stick-up-the-ass types who wear turtleneck sweaters and hang out at coffee shops. Nothing could be further from the truth. This book is so unpretentious and easily readable, and it's a shame that people (well, me anyway) automatically assume that it's going to be boring and difficult to read. Other nineteenth century Russian novels read the same way, but this is my favorite. And(I hope) I'm just a normal guy, not some pompous ass who only reads "literature", so I think most people would like it. |
1: The Hobbit
2: Lord of the Rings 3: Lord of the Flies....... Those were kind of the best three off the top of my head. |
To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee)
Lord of the Flies (William Golding) A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens) Honorable Mention: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Mark Twain), The Great Gatsby |
1. Dragonlance Saga (9 books and counting!)

1. The Divine Comedy (Dante Alighieri)
2. The Canterbury Tales (Geoffry Chaucer) 3. The Prince (Niccolo Machiavelli) |
For fun The first three Song of Ice and Fire books by Martin
for literature 1.) The Stranger (Albert Camus) 2.) Heart of Darkness (Joesph Conrad) 3.) Siddhartha (Herman Hesse) |
2. THE BLIND SPOT, by Homer Eon Flint?
1. THE HOBBIT (just reading LotR now - even better), J.R.R. Tolkien 3. THE TIME MACHINE, by H.G. Wells Unfortunately, I haven't read many "great books" like Dickens, Shakespeare, Moby Dick, War and Peace, etc... (usually just see the movie version if there is one). I enjoy mostly science fiction and war novels. |
Well, my post was from April and the list of favourites is still the same. Perhaps Man Machine Interface may edge out Gunm, but who knows?
