Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

I already had most of the Wes Anderson films on blu-ray so the box set was out. Used $45 in credits from the streaming service this year and ordered This is Spinal Tap, Shape of Water, Isle of Dogs, and French Dispatch.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought that Sorcerer Blu from 10 years ago or so was some loaded special edition. All I remember was buying it, then before I got a chance to watch it, it showed at a local theater so I put the disc away for a while.

But that was a while ago, and I'm getting the desire to see it again, I think the Criterion edition will be in my cart today.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

I'm definitely on the fence about picking up the Wes Anderson collection knowing that so many of the films are 4k masters of 2k masters rather than 4k masters of the original camera negatives.

I picked up:

Fires on the Plain 4K
The Burmese Harp 4K
High and Low 4K
This Is Spinal Tap 4K
Eyes Without a Face 4K
A History of Violence 4K
Altered States 4K
Read My Lips 4K
The Beat That My Heart Skipped Blu-ray
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me 4K

Yes, I have most of the films in the set on Criterion already, so just picking up French Dispatch this time. (And of course enough other selections to justify free shipping...)

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

Already got a shipping notice for my order, though it’s just a label so far. I suspect all the Anderson sets have been ready to go in anticipation of this sale. They also didn’t sell out of the set, which either shows they ensured they had more than enough stock for the high demand of this sale and the upcoming B&N sale, or that nobody’s buying it.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

Got an order in about 45 minutes before the sale ended

You can count on Me 4K

Blood Simple 4K

Fire walk with Me 4K

History of Violence BD. 4K was out of stock.

and I used my $10 code as well.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

I used this sale to fill in some gaps in the collection: I know some of the newer releases will be available at B&N next month.

Dr. Strangelove
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Gilda
The French Dispatch

I had lots of old codes, plus a $50 credit, so it came to just over $40 total.

Today, i picked up the 4Ks for Spinal Tap, Twin Peaks, and upgraded Punch Drunk Love and Barry Lyndon.

At $249.99, that is the 50% sale price. The lowest I've seen prior to this has been for $349+..

This was another reason I passed. I have never been anything but disappointed in 4K discs done from 2K masters. There was no reason for me to double dip to get such a slight upgrade.

His point was that there's no discount built into the box set pricing. It's 10 films (that would theoretically retail for $50 each) for $500. In other words, it wouldn't cost any extra money in the long run to just buy them all individually, assuming they are all eventually released individually.

Exactly. If the movies were say $18 a piece in the box set then that would be an incentive to go for the box set. At $25 a piece it's the same price as they would be on sale individually. Plus, I'm then stuck with a giant box I wouldn't know where to put.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

Don't follow this thread or Criterion enough but I do want to snag the Princess Bride but not at $40-$50. Missed out on this sale. Guess the hunt continues.

BN ships theirs straight from Alliance (kentucky warehouse). Criterion ships almost all their product straight from Alliance. Unless you live in a very odd place it should be identical -- I'm not sure there are any zip codes where Criterion send directly any more

If you want to talk with your BN to reserve a copy for pickup so they keep it in a secure location and don't spider wrap it

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

Given the value of the set and the gutting of most media sections in the stores, I would not be surprised at all if most locations keep one on display behind the front counter, and the rest of their copies in the back, in the original cardboard shopping boxes.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

Probably. All the Q1 Sales have been Feb/Mar. . Used to be 4th Tuesday in Feb was most common, but last few years they've shifted more toward mid March.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

So next Tuesday or the following Tuesday seem like good bets for the flash sale.

I'm looking forward to this one. I've got several titles to get.

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

There were so many titles I want coming out after this sale (Resurrection, Blade, Stray Dog, Life of Brian), I almost considered sitting this one out. The only must-have is American Utopia. But Testament comes out that day, maybe get some throw-ins from my want list to get the free shipping threshold.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Local Hero
Mulholland Drive

Re: Next Criterion flash sale?

I gotta think about Flower Moon. Never saw it, want to, but don't have whatever streaming service it's showing on, I think the only way I'll ever get to see it is subscribe, or buy the Criterion...

Not only did Criterion just email me (not a subscriber to the Channel) notification about the sale tomorrow but gave me $10 anyway. Exciting!

^ Same here. Doesn’t expire until September, but I’m not sure I need anything from them now. Guess I’ll see.
