The penny loophole was for 39.99 titles. Not sure why it didn't work for you (well it's the 8/40 which should never surprise me anymore), but there have been several successes yesterday though it is back to last years rules -- you mainly have to get them to follow the directions on the coupon. By forcing them to input the code manually that usually is the same technique.
The 20% is still an excellent deal unless you're in one of the 10 stores that have the 30% coupon through Friday |

Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion 50% off
Final purchase on this round of the Criterion sale - got 'New World' for $15.70 after tax, with the use of a $8 off $40 coupon. Thanks for all the help with the coupons, Hariseldon - annual membership fee was compensated for with total savings on this sale.

David Lean Directs Noel Coward blu ray box set shows as available in store or from 3rd parties. Not available from bn.com. The DVD version still available online.

Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion 50% off
I think I'm down for one more trip to the two stores near me for maybe 6 titles. I forgot about New World coming out. I hope it will still be available at one of those stores. I'd actually be surprised if it wasn't, although it seems there has been more traffic in the last couple of sales.

Is there a resounding Yes to Chaplin's 'The Kid' ? Might consider it as a final candidate but a 53 min feature shouldn't have been regularly priced.

Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion 50% off
I had some issues using coupons yesterday. The first store I visited immediately said the 20% coupon wouldn't work on Criterion titles and that they were told not to even try. At first, he didn't want to even try the 5 off 50, but he finally did. It still worked. I didn't even try the 20% coupon at the second store. When I gave my 5 off 50 coupon there, the cashier specifically asked if I got that coupon with my membership. I of course said yes, and it wasn't an issue.
One slight annoyance yesterday. At the first store, I asked if New World was in stock. He looked it up and told me it was already sold out there and at the other store. I decided to special order it to lock in the sale price and membership discount. When I got to the second store, there still was one copy left. Argh! Oh, one more slight annoyance. I ended up buying one title that I already had. I seem to do that once per sale now. Stupid. I'm trying to figure out what to do with it because I don't feel like making the hour drive to exchange it. |

Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion 50% off
Barnes and Noble is testing a new concept book store which includes a full service restaurant which will serve beer. The first store will open in Eastchester NY in October which had been a Borders Book Store to be followed by locations in Edina, Minnesota; Folsom, California, and Loudon, Virginia. Nice to know they are still opening new stores.
From a local Eastchester NY newspaper EASTCHESTER - Come October, residents in the Lower Hudson Valley will be able to get a drink, grab and bite and read a book — all in one place. The Vernon Hills Shopping Center will be home to one of four Barnes & Noble "concept stores" that will serve beer and wine, a "unique and welcomed use of the premises," Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita said. While Eastchester's store is slated to open first, in the former Borders location, it will be followed by locations in Edina, Minnesota; Folsom, California, and Loudon, Virginia. The local store will have an assortment of books, expanded seating and open spaces for in-store events. It will have a full-service restaurant, which will serve alcohol. It will also have an outdoor space with elements such as a bocce court, fire pit and outdoor seating. |
