Re: Fry's Electronics weekly sales

With the curtains coming down on Frys Electronics last week effective 2/24/21, anyone wants to post their final purchases ? This was my last haul from 1/27/21 from a store that looked like a ghost-town (Fountain Valley, CA)
  • Frank and Lola - 3 for $10
  • Night Moves - 3 for $10
  • Afternoon Delight - 3 for $10
  • Perfect Host - $2.99

R.I.P, Frys - it was good while it lasted

Unfortunately, the only Fry's in the state is a good 40 miles from me. Are they blowing anything out of value on the website?

Re: Fry's Electronics weekly sales

The other thread mentioned that everything on the store was on consignment, so all that stock just goes back to the manufacturers/sellers (if they want it)

Very last Blu-ray I bought there was Kill Your Friends for about 4 bucks when their stock was first dwindling. Last “cool” purchase there was Arrow’s Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast box set, and the complete Knight Rider set a bit before that.

I'll always have fond memories of Fry's because it's the store that sold me my first widescreen flat display. Interestingly enough, the screen is still going after I gave it away to a relative. So the display outlasted the chain itself.

Best Buy only saved itself from a similar fate by basically reinventing its entire business model. Though I wonder about Best Buy in a couple years.

Best Buy, even in the absence of COVID, is absolutely not the same walk in experience, though, which is sad. It, too is a store I was so excited to peruse the Sunday ads for, and even that is long gone.

I much rather would have lost Best Buy. Their stock is dwindling also, and by their own choice.

I saw video on youtube about it and checkd site and it didnt seem they was have any closing sale to get rid of any before closed for good. i read a comment they just send any stuff back to supplier so no need waste closing sale at time.

They didn’t have anything left to sell anyways.

True.

Here's a video about the decline and fall of Fry's.

Around the 9-minute mark they talk about the empty shelves and the fact that Fry's had switched to a consignment-style inventory (Yikes!!).

Re: Fry's Electronics weekly sales

As i was told that since they did consignment sales that any inventory they had i gues was sent back to suppliers so might have be none to sale any before they officialy closed all stores anywhere. so not big markdowns to get rid of stock to the last day. and saw videos in past that some stores were not stocked as any store might do any day. so was some or many empty areas just nothing to buy much. as if and cause some or many just order online or other places for any reason. i went there for pc any at times and variety other stuff at time.

Re: Fry's Electronics weekly sales

There is a three year gap (2018-02-17 to 2021-02-28) of no posts to this thread. I guess that says it all. I bought a fair amount from Fry's when I lived near one, but after I moved to a city that didn't have one I stopped buying from them entirely, mostly because Fry's generally limited its sales to in-store purchases only. I call that shooting your own foot off.
