Can anyone explain WHY it's so expensive???
Wasn't the 'Premium Edition' only sold in Japan? If so, they were limited to 3,000-4,000 copies.

For anyone interested, the Rohnert Park, CA store is at the same pricing that many have been reporting:

$2.99 DVD
$3.99 BD
$5.99 'Recent' DVD
$6.99-7.99 'Recent' BD

That was likely the case that the discs shipped in with the six-disc Terminator 2 Limited Edition Collector's Set Endoskull Blu-ray release. That would explain the high list price, but no endoskull, no sale.

Something else Blockbuster could have started carrying if they really wanted to try and stay alive- imports, limited editions, stuff like that. Instead they figured they'd sell more "As seen on TV" shit than anything having to do with video or movies. Too bad the Blockbuster/Circuit City merger never happened- that would have been epic!

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

I'm sorry I can't seem to post pics until I have 30 posts, but I can say that the cover was very simple, with T2 being in large print, and the entire cover, as well as back, being all black.

If I am not mistaken, it appeared to be just solely focused on T2, rather than the entire series, but it offered multiple versions of T2. I think one was a version that edited together all deleted scenes into the theatrical version.

The clerk told me she thought it was a rare item, and that the $125 price tag was not a misprint. But I do seem to recall her re-confirming that it was just a edition that focused on different versions of Terminator 2. She also mentioned something about a guy having his eye on it, and waiting for it to go down, so I'm left wondering if it's some imported limited print run edition that I should have my sights on as well??? ....

The T2 Skynet version has all three versions of the movie that I have heard of.

Bd's are $2 and so are dvd's in their cases. Mailer DVDs are $1, and cardboard slipcase DVDs are $1.50, they're a budget pre-viewed sealed-up cheap case.

I picked up the following at 76th and coldspring:
bd's-Funny People 2d, Bling Ring, Killer Joe
DVD in cardboard slip-Rocco and his Brothers
DVD in mailer-Love Parade CC Eclipse

For CC hunters, they had around 10 copies of Band of Outsiders in mailers, and 10 copies of Love Parade in mailers. Band is somewhere in the top row of the rack, while Love is somewhere on the bottom row. Unless things get moved around. I also overheard they have more stuff to put out, the store was about half empty.

I already posted this over in the DVD Bargains board, but more people seem to read BD Bargains, so FYI... Stopped in one last time today (Mesa, AZ). All PV DVDs & BDs were $1.00 and the signs said the store would only be open for 4 more days.

DVDs I picked up for $1:

Absentia
Animals
Antiviral
Byzantium
Curandero - Dawn of the Demon
Entrance
A Hijacking
Kill List
The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh
Manborg
Maniac (2012)
Micmacs
Nailbiter
No One Lives
[REC]2
Storage 24
Sushi Girl

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

picked up a bunch of BDs at the BBV across the street. Nothing spectacular and only a few I would've spent 2 bucks on. Got some decent DVDs. Again, nothing I would've spent more than a buck on. The thing that surprised me the most was the DVDs were pristine. I only had to put one back because of condition and only a couple were not perfect. I was expecting coasters. I guess nobody every rented them . I couln't make myself look through the artless ones. I did see a BIO disc I wouldn't mind having, but am a little particular about having the art.

Don't know whether to make the drive tomorrow to another one or not. I won't be able go to until tomorrow night and by then, it'll probably be picked clean.

FYI, according to Blockbuster.com, the very last day stores will be open is Jan 12th. (One can search their remaining locations on the site if one is so inclined.)

New releases or older ones too? Just curious, any particular genres you gravitated to? Most of my purchases were independent horror new releases & a few foreign flicks. I'm guessing by the time they got DVDs from 2012 & 2013, a majority of BB stores had been phased out and remaining locations were out of the way for most people. For instance, the closest location to where I currently live is 40 minutes away. There's no way I would have gone there if it wasn't on the way home from an even longer drive.

You mean the ones in those blue envelopes? Yeah, I didn't have the patience to look through those. Especially since they were 10 for $10, which is the same price as the DVDs with cases/covers.

Also FYI, brand new sealed DVDs & BDs were 70% off the price tag on Thurs. And all candy was 80% off, if anyone's looking for some cheap Twizzlers or whatever.

-----------------------

Another change I noticed Blockbuster had made for the better, albeit too late, was that they now stocked the full unrated versions of indie horror flicks. They used to distribute R-rated edits of titles distributed by Magnet Releasing (censored cut of Donkey Punch) & Dimension/Weinstein (R-rated cuts of Martyrs & Mother of Tears). But a year or two before the final liquidatio, they finally started stocking the full unrated cuts of films like The ABCs of Death & V/H/S/2. If only they'd practiced this a decade or two ago! They also had, for instance, the Unrated cut of Killer Joe, which is essentially the same as the NC-17 theatrical release. 10 years ago they would have stocked the R-rated edit (like I'm pretty sure Redbox does).

Even though it was picked up by Paramount for Stateside release, I was surprised that Blockbuster didn't opt for the Unrated version of 'The Loved Ones' (2009) for their stores.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Always found that extremely hypocritical- 'unrated' versions usually came out since the theatrical releases were cut down to an R to please Blockbuster, then the cool stores would carry the unrated versions- but Blockbuster decided they could carry those too since they aren't rated at all and technically don't break their rule against carrying NC-17 movies! I'm just SO glad they're finally gone now- while in this climate losing a retailer isn't usually a good thing, I have to make an exception for Blockbuster just because they were SO screwed up. Haven't even found anything special at their clearance sales- they probably trashed everything I would have wanted.

Our local BBV has 2 days left... I can't imagine what kind of crap they have left.

today is the last day for all of the BBV in my state. for blu-rays, stores had about a dozen- max. I managed to pick up 2.

I will miss BBV. I got a lot of nice blind buys with their PVD sales.

When I went to BB the other day, I was starting to feel a little sad that BB would no longer exist. Then some kid with asshole parents climbed up on the new release wall and knocked over a crapload of DVDs. I flashed back to all the kids who did this when I worked at Hollywood Video, and any sentimental memories of "the video store as a hub for movie fans" were swiftly wiped away. I thought "Well at least video store employees won't have to put up with this shit anymore."

Familiarity really does breed contempt.

Most of the DVDs I bought were TV sets or horror. ALot of Fangoria presents stuff (the artwork was a big push) and some newer independent films. I imagine most of what I bought was from the last 2-3 years and alot of it was stuff I had never heard of. Not a huge horror fan, though I do like it. I imagine most mainstream stuff had been gone for a while. I really waited too long to go.

yes, but I actually bought a few today. I bought Last of Sheila (which is OOP except for Warner archive), a BIO of Mata Hari and Inside the Actors studio with Barbra Streisand. The Last of Sheila was worth the time it took to look through the stacks alone.

Despite what I had said earlier, I decided to make a trip to a few BBVs. May post a pick of my haul. Some decent memorabilia and some brand new computers for 10 bucks a piece.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Oh, boo. Because my work blocks "entertainment" sites, I've been away since New Year's Day and totally missed getting out to the last remaining stores. They were over 20 miles away and with the snow we had, it just didn't happen. End of an era.

Now that BBV is gone, where are the decent PPV deals to be found? Family Video is pure garbage in stores. I've gotten a few good deals in the past, but now the pickings are so slim that I'm not wasting the time stopping anymore.

Don't know where you live, but have you looked at any independent music stores/record exchanges?

Down here in AZ there's an indie music store chain that sells craploads of PV DVDs people have traded in, often in large bins 3 for $9 or 2 for $5.

Aside from indie record stores, your best bet for used video bargains are probably media retailers like FYE or Hastings where people sell/trade in their used stuff. Places that specialize in used CDs or used books tend to have used DVDs/BDs.

See if there's any good locally-owned record or book exchanges in your area. Portland, OR has Powells Books. Los Angeles has Amoeba Records. Maybe where you live has some sort of equivalent.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Suburban Detroit and most of the indie record shops have gone the way of the chain stores - out of business. I've got one of the few remaining FYE stores near me and their prices range from ridiculous to wondering if the store has a drug habit its feeding. I'm talking $15+ for titles that may be $12 new at Amazon. No one is going to have 5/$20. The closest will be 3/$21 at Family Video and when you're used to paying ~$5 for Blus, $7 seems pricey.
