Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

I went to the closest store near where I live which is about 20 minutes away.

Blu-Rays & DVDs were still way too high (as many mentioned), but that didn't stop people from buying their minds out.

I will probably wait again until December because I did see some stuff I wanted. I know one of my best friends wanted to go, so we'll probably be back next month.

I guess that's an OK price for them, except for me it's 3D or nothing and The Heat is worth about $8 to me and Grown Ups 2 about $6. So, as always, the top tier titles go in the first day or two. There may be some 2D BDs I'd pay $12.99 for, but I wonder if Blockbuster even carries them (things like Lincoln 4 disc collector's edition and maybe A Very Merry Pooh Year) and if they did the 1 or 2 new copies they had are probably already gone.

Could other people list the GOOD deals that have been found?

The signs saying "everything must go" are accurate, but they don't have to go until January 12th I was told, so I doubt managers are going to be willing to take low offers for quite a while. Have other people been told January 12th or is each store on a different schedule?

Got the email today about the blowout. Picked one title at random because I knew the price. Horrible Bosses was $4.94 with case and artwork. Not terrible but previously available brand new for $5 at U&S

1-disc Extended only cut of this movie... or the 2/3 disc with theatrical cut/special features/DVD?

It didn't specify so I would guess it's the 1 disc.

I'm in Austin and visited 2 of the 3 recently. There's one South, I think on William Cannon and the 2 I visited--one on North Lamar and one on N. Research.

Visited the last one standing that I know of and basically the prices sucked--either $10 per disk or $13. So nothing for me. Won't return unless I'm in the hood on other business. Bye bye BB.

From what I've seen the prices for blu rays are still $12.99+ and the DVDs are $4.99+. I was told at the store that they were closing in January. So I assume come January is when the real deals start. Currently I can find better deals at pawnshops, used books stores, etc...I found it to be a complete waste of time bothering to visit their store at this time.

Almost picked up Solomon Kane on blu for $8.99 but just couldn't force myself to do it. They also had the Dragon Tattoo movies on blu at $8.99 each but I already picked them up for less than that from Blockbuster months ago before they were having their blowout sale. Oh well, I had to at least go look and confirm the prices were too high.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Thursday seems to be the day the prices drop.

in SoCal the BB in Culver City was at $8 or $9 a week ago, and the one in Burbank is a dollar more. By now they might each be a dollar cheaper. I think I'll check them out this Thursday or Friday after they possibly drop another dollar.

Lots of the DVDs and Blu Rays are not properly priced, allegedly because the employees weren't given time to properly mark them all. If you ring up some DVDs you'll find some are actually $2-5, and blu rays a few dollars more.

Doesn't sound like ANYTHING'S properly priced right now! I had to laugh at the email I got from them today (don't even know how I got on their mailing list!) promoting DVDs in plain sleeves at something like 3 for $10, when I could get them brand new at Big Lots for $3 each!

Funny thing. Had a mail subscription about a year ago, cancelled it and all of the sudden 3 DVD's came in the mail a few weeks ago.

Maybe they are just giving things away now?

For those in the area, the Rohnert Park, CA store has listed their final day as 1/10/14.

I bought a couple DVDs there today and saw it posted on the counters.

My receipt from Gilbert, AZ says "Blockbuster GiftCards are valid thought 1/9/14 and will no longer be redeemable after that date."

I have to say it's not nearly as fun browsing these outlets as it was the first & second wave of closings.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Checked out one of the 3 remaining Sacramento stores today and walked out laughing. Most of the new Blu-Rays they had I'd already gotten for less at other stores, and cracked up at all the used discs they were selling for more than the price of new ones, some of them without covers even! Was hoping some sort of rare or cool old stuff would've been dug out of their warehouse, but didn't see anything. Will probably check one more time in January, but they sure won't be missed.

Hated BB since they said I was late on 2 titles when I was NOT.

I paid the amount and turned in my BB card and never rented from that business again.
-NetFlix got my business after that.

BB forgot how to please their customer and we were pleased to not give them our business.

I find that so unusual. Not that I'm disputing it, it seemed to happen in many places. Everyone had so many problems with BB but my experience was the opposite. Anytime there was a problem the local managers went out of their way to take care of things. I didn't do a lot in the stores but certainly had some experience with them. The past year or two did get bad. No stores around and the online got to be horrendous. Netflix on the other burned me right off the bat and I never went back.

Right now I have Family Video which is fantastic. Just a few miles down the road and reasonably priced. Any store will have a limited selection compared to online but for all the recent movies its great. If there is something they don't have, I'll track it down online.

San Pablo, CA store is at $2.99 for DVDs and $3.99 for Blu-Rays. Still a lot of good stuff left.

Some 'recent' releases were at $5.99 for DVDs and $7.99 for Blu-Rays. There weren't many of either though.

Re: Blockbuster Closing For Good Final Bargain Thread 2013/2014

Just got back from the local Blockbuster, and saw they had a Terminator 2 Premium Edition (black cover) on the shelf.

Is this worth getting? I asked the clerk and she said she *thinks* it features some rare version as it was priced $125.99, but with 40% off.

Can anyone explain WHY it's so expensive???
