Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I'm not ready for BF. I spent $1,000 last BF at Amazon. So many games and BDs.

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I see an expired deal for Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited 1-4. Anyone know how much it was? I hope they do it again later this month...

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Awww...I feel the same sense of missing out with The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I've learned over the past few years that the best deals on Amazon (other than those lightning deals that very few of us get a chance to purchase because they seem to sell out so fast) come BEFORE Thanksgiving and not after it.
That said, the selection/bargains so far seem either relatively poor or just the same titles that have been put on sale in previous years. Hoping things amp up a bit Thanksgiving week...I usually spend a couple hundred on cheap catalog stuff I never got around to buying this time of the year. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I ended up picking up the Peanuts Holiday Collection for $18.99. I never bought the DVDs, so that price for the Blu Ray set seemed reasonable.

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Come on Clone Wars and BBT Season 5 and HIMYM!

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
The current deal is for "The Goonies: 25th Anniversary BR" for 14.49. When you click on it, it's still full price. I had to figure out how to contact them and they did change the price, but only after I placed the order. Just wanted to give anyone else who wanted it a heads up.

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
The lightning deal price shows up right above the regular price add to cart.

Amazon must have fixed the glitch after I (or someone else) reported it, but when I wrote my comment, they had not. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
The lightning deal price for The Producers is $10.49
|
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Picked up The Producers for that price!
|
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Nice, glad I logged in today...got in on The Producers just in time.
|
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Wow, I just saw this and grabbed it with 53 seconds (!) left in the lightning deal. Thanks for the heads-up. I assume the upgrade from DVD is worth it at that price?

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Does anyone know what the MTM and L&H sets went for?

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I'm not expecting much from Amazon because they are followers and not leaders in pricing. There's no way I'll remember to check this thread often enough. I hope people can keep a running list of what's on sale for what price.
Given that Amazon is a follower, I expect this year's BF to be like last year's where it's about 90% a repeat of the same items and prices that BB, Target and Walmart have in their BF ads, so the only reason to order from Amazon is if you don't think you can get your hands on it at one of the other stores. And on a side note (unrelated to Amazon), I'm hating stores even more for starting the BF madness at 6 PM on Thanksgiving. It barely leaves you time for Thanksgiving dinner. Next year I bet they'll start even earlier and soon it'll be Black Thanksgiving starting at 6 AM and then Thanksgiving at midnight and then Wednesday at 10 PM and then Wednesday at 6 PM when some of us are still at work. B&M stores, please lay off! I think anything earlier than 8 PM on Thanksgiving is totally unacceptable, yet we have to accept it. I wish the employees at these stores could boycott them and refuse to go into work early so that stores will stop trying to turn what should be a restful holiday with family into another day of shopping madness. I'm already on the edge of getting burned out by BF, and they're starting to push it. I keep thinking someday I'll say "it's not worth it" and just ignore BF week like it doesn't exist, but my willpower/anger hasn't quite reached the necessary level yet. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I agree with your sentiments RE: opening times Manzana. Not to sidetrack this thread too far from its intended purpose, but I think next year we may see some stores start some deals on that Wednesday night (say 10 PM or something) and be open for 4 or 5 hours with a round of door busters, then close and open up at 10 PM on Thanksgiving or 12 AM on that Friday with a new round of DB and weekend deals.
That way you aren't taking away Thanksgiving Day like is happening more so this year than in the past. On a note related to Amazon, hopefully they surprise people and have a broader selection of items on sale than what you will find at the B&M places. |

I just do not get this line of thinking. Nobody is forcing anybody to go to these stores at 5 pm on Thanksgiving. As an adult, each and every one of us can choose to ignore the madness, spend time with the family and pay a little more in the coming days OR we can go all in at the early times and forgo Thanksgiving dinner. Each individual will have their own priorities. If you want to come at it from the point of how crappy it is for the employees, than I am right there with you. They are the only ones being forced to show up and have their Thanksgiving screwed. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
My guess is that some stores will move to open all day on Thanksgiving, while larger chains hold back the BF items until 6 or 8 PM on Thanksgiving. Honestly, having the sales start at 8 PM makes a lot more sense than forcing everyone to get up at 3 AM and wait in the freezing dark for Friday. West Coast people don't understand how cold it gets in the rest of the country on Thanksgiving most years.

Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
Re BF: due to the economy, I may be losing my home in a few months which would require severe downsizing. So my BF thinking is a couple of huge (& I mean huge) external hard drives for my huge music cd collection & then sell the cd's off.
I don't see that as a realistic option for dvd or blu's. |

DOTD or LD, just wanted to inform the masses. My guess on price? $21.99 |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I've only seen Spaceballs (which I loved) and Young Frankenstein (which I wasn't crazy for) but if this goes for $20-22ish I'm in for a blind buy!

I think most of the ire has been concerning the employees being forced to work. What I don't know is how much of this is coercion or if the workers are mostly Volunteers with the bonus of Holiday Pay (2x. 2.5x or 3x). I don't know what the pecking order is, but when I was younger there was absolutely nothing special enough about Thanksgiving that I wouldn't have considered moving Dinner to Saturday if needed.
