Not too huge a loss as a lot of blu rays are coming way down in price. Movies like "World's End" which has only been out a couple months is already being sold for $12. It's just a matter of waiting for most releases nowadays before they hit a dirt cheap price.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade and Save 7/14 - 8/10

I've heard too many stories that BB wants to thin down to just selling new release movies/TV seasons and select sale items (stuff they are able to get dirt cheap from their sources) to believe that their movie inventory is going to do anything but shrink massively until we've got only 1 tiny row of BDs/DVDs left, and as others have said their U&S program was meant to shrink inventory. I don't think they're ever going to need it again, but what really guaranteed the death of U&S is that after the last U&S I bought over a dozen Dollar Tree $1 DVDs I didn't want so that I'd be prepared for the next U&S, and I'd never bought a bunch in advance. The karma of that act was cosmic and massive and reached the BB U&S management's vibes and ended it for everyone. Now if I were able to get rid of all of my excess DVDs so that I'd have absolutely nothing to trade in, then maybe the karma could be reversed. :-) Just kidding. I don't really believe it's karma. It's simply my Murphy's Law bad timing.

Waiting is the key, although even better deals on recent releases can be found used at Gohastings (especially when they have their 40% or 50% off used deals) *IF* you're lucky enough to catch the item in stock at the time. I miss about 95% of the Gohastings deals everyone posts due to them always being OOS when I look, but I do catch a few occasionally.

I've always considered Gohastings.com a giant database of empty placeholders for stuff, and every once in a while they fill a slot and if you're lucky enough to notice it at the right time during a sale, you get a deal, but I suspect that of all the items they have listed in their online database far more than half of the stuff is OOS.

I wish U&S would come back, I'm stuck with 20 to 30 DVDs I thought I was going to be able use for this now I'll most likely get 50 cents to a dollar each for them. lol

The problem was, in the most recent sales the pickings were so slim it was tough to find some decent things to buy. I ended up buying several Blu's that I already had the HD DVD of so I didn't need it. I also ended up with a few new releases that I knew would be cheaper a few weeks down the road. And they were. I loved the concept and have tons of DVD's I would gladly trade-in for the $5 credit but they'll never go back to having enough inventory to make it worthwhile.

I don't. We've had almost 6 weeks of 2.99-4.99 BDs. I think most of us should be OK for a while. I'll probably be ready for an April U&S, but this last 6 weeks has been brutal on my wallet.

con·sen·sus [kuhn-sen-suhs] Show IPA
noun, plural con·sen·sus·es.

1. majority of opinion: The consensus of the group was that they should meet twice a month.

2. general agreement or concord; harmony.

Reading the forums here and at BR.com, the consensus was that they were no longer going to do it. Meaning the majority felt it was over. There was no definite word from anyone higher up at BB to confirm or deny. Hence the phrase: "Although no definite word, the consensus is that the program is dead.."

If and when someone from BB corporate releases a statement I'll be sure to pass it along.

The kids at Blurayy.com know what they are talking about!!!

But really, does it matter? Selection has been drastically reduced and when this sale comes along the prices just get upped to accommodate the "sale". The last go around it was pretty bad, imagine now after they recently remodeled all sections.

Agreed. I merely expounded on my original statement after it was inferred I was pulling the opinion out of my ass.

It doesn't matter whether they know what they are talking about or not. It's still the consensus. They probably don't know, but some of them actually work for BBY and have some insider information.

I think the spirit of what he said was understood and his use of "consensus" was correct. Whether U&S is actually gone, remains to be seen.

BTW, great comeback. It definitely proves your point.

Smarmy is a good word. Some people just can't help themselves.

Several stores in my area currently have Batman Returns on Blu for $9.99. I hope that's still the case in a few weeks.
