I'd recommend that you reconnoiter the store first, and make sure it has the titles you want, and then go back to your car and get the number of titles you need to trade in for coupons.

I just walk around the store with my trade-ins until I find the titles, and then go to Customer Service and do the upgrade. Sometimes the guy at the front will put stickers on them so I can walk around, and sometimes they don't care. Saves a trip of me going back out to the car.

^ Yep, that's what I do as well. If I don't find anything I want I take my DVD's back with me. That way I'm not stuck with coupons I'm not going to use.

I thought the Universal coupon promo ended 12/31/12?

TheBang 01-11-13 06:27 PM

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2

The Universal coupons expired one month after the print date, so it's possible for people to have generated coupons on 12/31 that don't expire until 1/31.

If they don't have the item I want in store, will they order it to the store for me if I go there in person?

No, on hand only.

Thanks, I'll ask about that tomorrow.

Also, if it says "unavailable" for a particular store online, is there any chance they would still have it? I can't believe that out of 19 items they only have one at any store in the state of NJ lol.

The instore Kiosk system is much more reliable and will search local stores and often even tell you how many copies a particular store may have. Many items in stock may not be on the shelves and could be in the storeroom so ask for help and hopefully one of the blueshirts will search the back for you.

8 Digit SKU are virtually never going to be instore however. 6 or 7 digit SKU items you have a chance.

3 Copies or less = Out of Stock according to the online tracker.

At least that's how it was a year or two back.

Nothing really that great this week for the U&S program.

Already ordered Taken 2 from Amazon (got it for free with a bunch of credits I had)

Trying to not spend too much money on BDs and DVDs because I'm going on an overseas vacation next month and need to save my money.

A few weeks ago I was having trouble finding Homeland Season 1 at the store when it was $19.99. I checked the instore kiosk and it said there were NO copies. I looked around the store some more and finally found a stack of about a half dozen up front in a separate display.

Same thing happened a couple weeks ago with "The Getaway." Some reported that it did not show up at all online. Instore it was the same, but I found plenty of copies in a featured display.

Just a warning: you can't always trust the instore kiosk, either.

This is what I'm worried about. I'm afraid BB will have such pathetic inventory levels of the handful of BDs that I want that they'll be gone in the first few hours of Sunday and not replenished until they day after the U&S ends or the price increases.

I drive by 3 BB stores on weekdays, but unfortunately I don't live near one, I'm sick today, and it's very cold outside. I'll have to go to work tomorrow (unless I'm so sick I can't function because I get 0 sick days and have 0 vacation in my trial period), but there's a meeting that starts at 10 AM which is when BB stores open, so it's impossible for me to go before work. Short of making a special trip today while I'm sick or leaving work on Monday morning after the meeting (where I'll just sit there silent like a rock) and driving another 6 miles, the soonest I can get to a BB store easily is about 7:30 PM on Monday on my way home.

Will anything be in stock then? Heck, is anything in stock now? I've just started going through the U&S list off other sites that list all potential sale titles. I haven't check inventory because I don't know what I want yet.

So, is my health and convenience more important than 5 BDs (all I could get today)? I'm going to say yes and hope that what I want doesn't go OOS. But if I did miss several U&S BDs because they either never carried them or didn't replenish them after they sell out on Sunday or Monday morning, it wouldn't be the first time that's happened during U&S. Sadly out-of-stock-ness is my biggest battle with B&Ms lately. It's great that Target PMs Amazon.com now, but Target carries so little it's almost like saying a store that only carries furniture is matching Amazon's electronics' prices... well not quite that bad because Target does have an electronics section but the BD section is pretty small. I'm still not sure if Walmart or Target has the smallest BD selection speaking of which (and going further off topic) my Walmart just removed 1 large side of the permanent 4-sided BD display and replaced it with DVDs. I always like to see things go in the wrong direction. NOT.

I've got a list of about a dozen titles to look for (including a couple triple packs), although I'm definitely not expecting to find all of them.
On a sidenote, I hate how you can't see the paper ad online anymore. When you go to look at deals, they show it as a webpage with items.

We have 2 close by but I'm sure they don't do any special inventory when the sale is coming and neither have restocked during the sale. After the first few days there isn't much to choose from. Last time I traded in a bunch on Sunday then held on to the coupons, I ended up getting a few I already had on HD DVD just so the coupons didn't go to waste but I already had the movie in HD.

By the end of the first week the gaps on the shelf look like a hockey players smile.

I went to Best Buy this morning with a list of 15 titles I was looking to get and of that list, they had 5 in store.

Wound up with the following (each $4.99 after coupon):
The Breakfast Club
Barbarella
Das Boot
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Firm (this was not on my original list, but when I saw the stickered price, I put down School of Rock)

Finally got some static at checkout at this Best Buy. The cashier initially insisted there was a list of eligible blu-ray titles to which I replied there was not and she got snippy. Then she called over a manager who told her that the $5 Off will not work on sale prices and she told him he was wrong. In the end, she was scanning some old expired store copy of the coupon and wound up just manually adjusting all my titles $5 Off, but not before forgetting one, but then doing it after I asked her since I thought my total was a bit high.

It took a while, but I walked out with 5 Blu-rays for $26.xx after tax.

I traded in 3 DVDs and 2 HD-DVDs that they didn't even bother opening the cases to check if they had discs.

On the fence about upgrading a couple of HD-DVDs for $5, but hopefully some more $9.99 titles become available before this thing ends.

Went pretty well for me. The guy didn't even look at the discs I was trading in, just counted. On the way out the security guy did stop me and check my receipt thoroughly for a good 25 seconds. No problems though other than being out of a few things that I wanted.

I really wanted the Austin Powers 3-pack, but my store says they don't carry it, although I could've sworn it did say available when I checked online and there was a sticker where it was supposed to be. I did see a fat guy rolling a cart loaded with blu-rays towards the back, could they be stashing popular titles in the back during this? That doesn't make any sense to me, but who knows.

I did find I Saw The Devil which was awesome because that has a "Not Available in Stores" message on Bestbuy.com. It's labeled "Special Interest" for some reason if you can't find it.

So for $5 each I got

Beetlejuice/Charlie/Corpse Bride
The Hangover steelbook
Horrible Bosses
I Saw The Devil (one of the best movies I've ever seen by the way, if you see this one in-store, buy it)

Did my first batch today. Had to run to a second BB since they didn't have much at the first one I went to. Ended up with:

Big Lebowski
L.A. Confidential
The Mummy
Austin Powers 3-pack
TMNT 3-pack

I'll run by the one by work tomorrow to grab another batch. Looking to grab I Saw the Devil and the new Metallica for sure.

Tried to trade 1 DVD for 1 Blu-ray at CS, but they were unaware of any "upgrade & save" program. I showed them the flyer and they said "oh" and wound up doing it manually. -rolleyes-

They did say there is a promo for $5 off any Blu-ray if you have a mobile specialist check your phone. I did that also before I left, and was given a $5 coupon, NQA. If you don't have enough DVDs or want to save one for another title, the phone program is a good option.

I do this too.

found a small stack of Guns of Navarone.

Saw the I saw the Devil movie there too. What's it about and why is it good?

All the old steel books are 9.99 too. Saw plenty of the Batman Rises and MiB3 steels but MiB3 was $30 and Batman was $25

Picked up Scrooged (Bill Murray), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Road Trip, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail for $4.99 each. Also got a coupon from the cell phone guy for checking to see if I was eligible for an upgrade yet.

Here's a (really basic) description from IMDB:

"When his pregnant fiancee becomes the latest victim of a serial killer, a secret agent blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge. "

It's intense, gruesome and beautiful. It's long but there's so much suspense and tension that the movie never feels long. There are some really amazing sequences also, I don't think I blinked during the cab scene and the finale. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It's just a really, really well made movie.

Here's a couple hundred reviews:
