Picked up:

Road to Perdition $5
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D $14.99 (not the BB Exclusive one)

GR posed a problem, as it did not take it the coupon of automatically. I don't know if it was because it was on sale or if it is because it is part of the 2-Day Columbus Day sale. They manually changed the price to $14.99 for me.

Not sure, but the coupons do say the discount will be taken off original or promotional price.

So during my visit, at checkout, my coupon that I didn't use from the last U&S was not taking the discount off the total. A manager had to be called in. This was my first time using a coupon held over from the previous sales event and will be my last, even if I have to buy movies I don't really want. I bought for $4.99 each:

Predator
Predator 2
9
I Spit On You Grave double pack - this was a blind buy & I'm hoping I like both movies

But I am at a crossroads on a certain set of movies and I'm asking for advice. I was going to purchase Nightmare on Elm Street 2 & 3 double pack when I saw a collector edition of the first 7 movies on Blu for $44.99. Here's the problem; I've never seen any of the films past #2 except for Freddy vs. Jason. After some checking, I have some options:

1) I could buy the blu's of 1, 2, 3 and F vs J for $19.97 (after two $5 U&S coupons) makes them 4.99 per disc.

2) I could buy the collector's 7- disc blu and F vs J for 46.98 (after two $5 U&S coupons) makes them $5.87 per disc.

3) I can buy 2 dvd 4-packs with all 8 movies for $17.98 (no coupons) makes them $2.25 each.

I just don't know about the movies 3 - 7 and if they are worth the extra $$ on Blu. I know I like the first movie and I enjoyed the last, it's just all the ones in between that I'm concerned with. I don't mind spending more for a good series, but if several of the movies stink I could live with all of them on dvd.

Seeing as how the coupon has an expiration date, I don't even know why it would have needed to get to the point of bringing in a manager. The most important thing when doing the u&s program, make sure you have your movies you want to buy before trading in dvd's. These coupons DO NOT carry over to the next sale.

Went yesterday and picked up:

Margin Call (been waiting for a good deal on this one)
40 Year Old Virgin
Red Dawn

All $4.99 after discount. I was able to sale the Digital Copy code from Virgin for $3 on another site. So, a little more than $2 for that one. If I had any of the Universal Coupons left if would have been even cheaper.

I didn't see a need to look for an expiration date, as I've read numerous posts on this site that the coupons would be good from one sale event to the next. I didn't ask for a manager, the cashier did it all on her own. As I always do, I stop by customer service to trade in my movies first because if one store doesn't have what I want, another store might. In this instance, I didn't go to another store before the sale was over. Guess I'm just fortunate that the manager took the coupons anyways. When I take in movies again tomorrow, I will look to see if there truly is an expiration date.

Just a heads up the blu-ray of Kung Fu Hustle is the old edited version. The only unedited version released in the US is the "Ass Kickin Edition" on dvd.

Would love to see these posts, been doing the u&s deals every time Best Buy has had them and not seen anyone say the coupons from previous u&s sales are fine to use. Perhaps someone might have stated having the "luck" that you had of them accepting an expired coupon, but not people stating they are good from one sale to the next. They clearly state the duration of the program and the expiration date.

And yes you were fortunate the manager took them, they definitely were in their right to shoot you down.

Are people finding 10 Things I Hate About You BD at their BB stores? Of the handful of BDs I decided to get with U&S, for some reason that one online does not show as available in stores.

There are no special promos on Jaws BD (which people keep mentioning), right? It's $14.99 after U&S which is still too expensive for me.

IDK if this has been posted, but I stopped by the dollar tree before going to BB. They had 2 packs of Bewitched for $1. The Kidman film, and the first 3 episodes of the series. Both with bar codes, both traded no problem.

Glad to report my purchase went effortlessly. Traded in 2 dvd's, picked up Prometheus 3D and ET Digibook (which there were plenty of), both rung up correctly and also took off $3 for the Universal coupon and was out within 10 minutes. Good job Best Buy!

Superdaddy 10-09-12 01:17 PM

Re: Apparently U&S is back on October 7th

On break this afternoon, got E.T. digibook for $19.99 with trade. Now just have to return the one I pre-ordered when it arrives in the mail. There were eight copies of the digibook on the shelf when I left and lots of the edition in the regular case.

Prometheus was all over the place; two big displays just inside the door and more copies in the new release rack and the main shelves. They had more of the 2D than the 3D packages but neither was in short supply.

I actually thought I spotted a Jaws digibook for a moment until I realized it was copies of the DVD mixed with the Blu-rays in the standard cases. These integrated DVDs and BDs are pretty annoying.

Bay Shore NY if anyone is interested.

Well, that was interesting.

Turned out that didn't apply all my trade-ins (two out of six) and had to get back in line.

Worked out for me though ;)

I actually ended up TRADING a DVD for a Blu, instead of upgrading :D

The clerk didn't cross off a line on my receipt when I picked up Prometheus, so that's $5 I can use again.

Traded in 4 old Fox sampler discs and a Sideshow Collectibles DVD catalog. They didn't have the proper coupons, so I got a photocopy coupon with the number 5 written on it. But I only bought 3 items. They gave it back to me, and didn't even write on it. So it looks like I can get 5 again. Bought:
ET Digibook - $19.99
Miramax 6-movie action collection (Existenz, B Monkey, Albino Alligator...etc) - $4.99
The Next Three Days - $4.99

Also picked up my order for Kevin Smith 3-movie pack ($4.99)

Wanted to get Prometheus 3D, but the Reward Zone app wasn't bringing up my RZ certs, so decided to go back later. Found out they changed the app. There is a new Best Buy app now...

I think I've had the same girl the last 4 times I've done a trade-in. I get excited when I see she's working because I know there will no problems with the trade-in.

I got

The League Season 2
The League Season 3
The Innkeepers
Magic

Total was about $30. I almost got the I Spit On Your Grave double feature, passed on it. The original actually isn't a badly made movie, but it's such a bummer I don't think I'd ever watch it again. Actually the same reason I didn't get Henry.

Re: Apparently U&S is back on October 7th

Personally I found this a pitiful sale. The local Best Buy has reduced their local BD movie selection to the point that it isn't even worth going. Titles I thought I might "upgrade and save" were either not there at all, raised to $14.99 from a previous price of $9.99 or lowered to $7.99 and thus not eligible. Even the stock levels on sale items sucked. I found zero copies of Alien movies, zero copies of xmen and zero copies of AVP. I don't know how they could have fucked up worse. Their selection of catalog titles is worse than either Walmart or Target. I think I'm done with them ... unless it's a sale item and I can get there at opening on the first day. Otherwise, forget it.

Since it just started a couple of days ago and runs until the 20th, you may want to be a little patient and allow them to restock and add/lower prices. That's what they usually do every time they have this promo. But it's far from a fuck up of a sale, and definitely much better than Target and Wal-Mart.

There is a special cardboard display, promoting Prometheus. It is possible your store didn't put it out yet.

Picked up Prometheus 3D and encountered no pricing issues when I checked out. I also picked up Margaret with Anna Paquin and Matt Damon, which finally became available in retail stores today after being an Amazon exclusive since July. It's on sale for $24.99, so I got it for $19.99, which is as good a deal as any I've seen on that movie. Just a heads up if anyone is interested.

Ended up with the following for $10.77 after $10 RZ. Not too shabby with the fact that it includes admission for 2 shows as well with the 1st 2.

So did anyone find any of the James Bond exclusives? I ended up with Prometheus 3D and To Kill a Mockingbird. It's a shame that BB's selection pretty much resembles a bigger Redbox. Nothing unusual or interesting.

Those aren't out until next week.

I found the promotion this time around to be a royal pain in the ass. I haven't read the thread, but it looks like some people are mentioning a receipt the cashiers are crossing out when they check out.

The store I went to had this to some extent. Instead of the coupon vouchers they would only accept the trade ins at the customer service desk and print out the receipt and hold on to it until you picked out your new titles.

It just seemed more hassle than it was, especially for the customer service reps. They really had no idea what they were doing and were confused as hell. I didn't know if I was necessarily going to get 5 titles when I traded them in but was hoping I'd at least get some sort of print out if they didn't have the vouchers so I could come back at a later time or go to another store.

I wonder why they're not doing the vouchers this time around?

Agreed. Usually I just hand someone a movie and they hand me a coupon. This time the processed it like a video game trade in where you have to sign for it. The clerk asked me if I knew what I was getting with the coupons and I replied no. He says well I can just hold onto to these and I can do it all on the same transaction. I replied no thank you, I just want my coupons and I will look around.

There are none in the Houston area either. I placed an online order for a return/rebuy (and picked up 4 more!), but if it weren't for Magic, I probably wouldn't have bothered. I haven't seen this since it was in theaters or on TV so I hope it holds up.
